🌱 Saturday Reminder for Farmers & Dreamers
Real change does not happen overnight.
It happens when people decide to start — even with little.
A small garden can feed a family.
A few chickens can support school fees.
Shared knowledge can lift a whole community.
At AgriNest, we believe farming is not just work — it is hope, dignity, and a future built slowly but honestly.
This Saturday, we celebrate every farmer who keeps going, even when resources are limited. 🌾

🌱 Building From the Ground Up
AgriNest is still in its early stages — learning, organising, and growing step by step. We may not have big resources yet, but we have something powerful: committed people, real community needs, and a clear vision.
We believe meaningful change in farming doesn’t start with money. It starts with trust, skills, and people willing to work together. As we continue to grow and await the arrival of partners and well-wishers, we remain focused on laying a strong foundation.
Every strong tree starts as a seed. 🌱
This is our season of rooting.

One piece of land, two crops, double the profit.

Maize and watermelon work together in perfect balance. Maize grows tall, protecting watermelon from harsh sun. Watermelon spreads wide, covering the soil and keeping weeds down. Each crop helps the other thrive.

Their roots explore different soil layers, reducing competition and improving soil structure. The shade from maize reduces evaporation, while watermelon vines conserve moisture. Together they make the land more productive.

The mix also reduces pest attacks through crop diversity. You get better yields, healthier soil, and two harvests from the same piece of land.

This is smart farming. Simple. Profitable. Sustainable.

When I bought my first 3 goats, I honestly had no grand vision — just a small dream and a love for farming. Fast forward to today, I have 40 healthy goats, and they’ve become a key part of Kitui AgriNest Initiative Farm’s story.

Here’s how I did it:
- I focused on local, hardy breeds that can thrive in our climate.
- I learned to spot sickness early and built a basic shelter to protect them from weather.
- I fed them on a mix of hay, kitchen leftovers, and greens from the farm.
- I reinvested — instead of selling the kids (baby goats), I grew the herd slowly and steadily.

Goat farming doesn’t need millions to start. It needs patience, a plan, and consistency. One goat can give birth to 2 kids twice a year. Do the math. That’s growth!

If you’re thinking about starting your own herd, my advice: start small, learn fast, and stay committed.

What questions do you have about goat farming?

When I planted my first row of vegetables, it wasn’t just about farming — it was about feeding my family with my own hands. There’s a quiet joy that comes from watching your loved ones enjoy food grown right in your backyard.

No chemicals. No long supply chains. Just clean, healthy food… straight from soil to table.

We may not all afford big farms or greenhouses, but a small piece of land — or even grow bags on a balcony — can change your family’s diet and health.

Farming has become more than a hobby for me. It’s a life plan. A retirement plan. A food security plan. A plan to raise children who understand the value of work and patience.

Whether you’re in your 30s, 40s or even 50s… it’s never too late to start.

Start with what you have.
Start where you are.
Start now.

How Do You Manage Mental Health While Farming?
Farming is rewarding but can also be stressful — especially when you’re balancing work, family, and farm life like I do.

At KituiAgriNestInitiative, I’ve learned these simple truths:
- It’s okay to ask for help — from family, friends, or community.
- Take time to rest — farming is a marathon, not a sprint.
- Celebrate small wins — every sprout, every chick, every step forward matters.
- Keep a journal to track your progress and feelings.

When anxiety or overwhelm hit, I remind myself:
“I’m building a future, one day at a time.”

Mental strength in farming is as important as physical labor. Nurture your mind like you nurture your crops.

Here’s what to do before quitting your job.
- The farm can cover some monthly bills.
- You have saved at least 6 months’ worth of living expenses.
- A clear vision and systems in place at the farm.
- Tested the waters — weekends, holidays, evenings.

Don’t quit out of frustration — quit with a foundation.

Farming can give you freedom — but only if you build it with wisdom.

Start where you are. Let your job fund your farm.
And when it’s time — your farm will be ready to receive you fully.
