Akina Ties is a crisis accommodation shelter for children, and women who have been abandoned and/or affected by sexual and domestic violence in the Kisii area of western Kenya.
To all the women who support this cause we wish you a happy international Women's Day. Through your support we are and in this way you are
Our young women at Akina Ties are not only conquering trauma but conquering the world through education and this is because non of you is resting but always thinks of ways to support us.
Our hope is that no women, young or old will be forgotten.
From us to you all
Today we celebrate the women who have taken their time to commit themselves to support us in our Board. It's not an easy task to juggle between their normal jobs, duties and also sit on the board to support the administration and running of Akina Ties.
This year's theme "Invest in women: Accelerate Change" Akina Ties has been committed in the education and support of women and girls who are the backbone of social change in our communities.
We salute you and say happy international Women's Day.

Sustainability at Akina. Making use of the flower beds to grow vegetables. This is Spinach, a healthy vegetable for our children at Akina.
This past week has been harvesting week at Akina Ties . We trust that for us to be sustainable in the future we must begin now. Last season we planted our own maize. We are so greatful for the yield. We make the most of what we have so as to afford our babies their favorite African cake, Ugali 🤭
Thank you all for your continued support to this noble cause.
One of the children at Akina turned 18!!! So proud of this moment. *Anna has made us proud. She joined university last semester and is continuing to prove resilient despite adversity. This year in September two more children from Akina will also be joining university. This is so inspiring and it is great to see the impact we are making through your support. Happy birthday
Our girl has been selected to join High School and she reports on Monday the 15th 2024. Her school fee for the year plus shopping will cost us about $860.
We are seeking for help from our friends to support her in joining high school.
If you would like to donate towards this cause kindly go to our website and click on the donate tab. It's someone like you that keep our children in school and this in return transforms their lives and change their Destinies.

My dear friend Rose Mogeni runs an organisation called Juniper Purse which was borne out of the desire to support bright needy children in the Kisii Community, who without scholarships could not finish their high school education. Through her one of our dear girls who we mentor through our Girlie Camp Project "Merea" got a scholarship for 4 years to study in High School and I am so proud of her. She passed so well and she is headed to UNI too. This is our second girl this year. Thank you Rose and your board members for partnering with us in
We are a very happy bunch at Akina Ties! Congratulations to our beautiful girl who has performed very well in her Year 12 exams and is headed to University! Thanks to our Public officer Sharon Simpkins and her two friends Mellisa and Barb for sponsoring our girl through her high school education. She has made us proud. Off to Uni now, our girls are breaking the ceiling and this is a testament to our Motto which goes "Transforming Lives, Changing Destinies"
We would like to say thank you to all our sponsors for making sure our doors are open to enable us be there for these children. Without you all, no such beautiful stories will be told!

It's 55 minutes to 2024 here in Kenya, and I sit back to look at the year that has been and on behalf of the Akina Ties Board members we thank God for the way He has led us through this past year. Pulling through has been a miracle and thank you for being that angel that was sent our way, thank you for always thinking about us and always making that donation that helps us to keep our doors open for all our 31 kids and our community.
We wish you and your families a happy and prosperous new year. We share a handmade card from our kids at Akina Ties Haven all the way from Kenya and we hope you all have a great year ahead!
Grateful for the support. It is through partnership like these that we are able to provide a home for the children at Akina.
One thing Lillian loves doing each year is taking time to cook for the children a Christmas lunch and this year has been a special one. Thank you Sadie Hunt, Simone Rusell and Mary Kemunto. On behalf of the AT Board members we would like to thank you for making it possible for the kids to enjoy Christmas lunch!
From ours to yours!
Akina Ties is humbled to have partnered with the Fransisca Kwamboka foundation to host this year' girlie camp. The founder of Akina Ties Lilian Marwa states that: "have alot of us doing what we can in our corners to reach out to the vulnerable girls in our community. Teen Pregancies, Early marriages which lead to our girls to dropping out of school are all catalysts of Female Ge***al Mutilation. Gender Based Violence which is also our area of focus can only be addressed through curbing poverty and we believe by starting to empower them when they are young. An empowered woman is an empowered society."
The welcome package at the Akina Ties . This enables the girls to have a comfortable stay as we provide everyone with a starter pack and they get to keep the blankets to take home. Very grateful to the Fransics Kwamboka Foundation for coming making sure this happens this year.
This year Akina Ties has partnered with the Launch of the Fransisca Kwamboka Foundation to launch the 2023 Girlie Camp. From 17-21 December 2023!! This is an annual event that Akina Ties holds to prevent FGM in our communities. We offer alternatives through the Girlie Camp to our girls where they have a week of training on what careers they can venture into, we have members of the community who are successful also come and talk to them. # Mentalhealth
Sustaibility is the future thus must be in the present. At Akina Ties we plant our vegetables. Can you spot the tomatoes in between the kales? We make the most of our small space and have the food planted in bags. This assures healthy food for our children at Akina Ties.
The beautiful landscape and weather in the area where Akina Ties is located are very beneficial to the well being of our children at Akina Ties. Evening walks make for nice afternoons spent in the open and to explore mother nature. Always with volunteers supporting us take care of the kids while on the walk.
At Akina we are family. Evening walks like these enable the children under our care to have an amazing time and the bonus is that they enjoy the walks!! Really appreciative to the volunteers who take their time and resources to be with us. There are many ways to volunteer at Akina Ties!
Sustainability has been one of the biggest goals at Akina Ties. As we head into 2024, our goal is to grow our own food. Partner with us to enable us to reach our goals. This will ensure the children under our care get nutritious meals, are well fed and that Akina is sustainable in the longrun.
Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. At Akina Ties we change lives by making sure every child under our care has access to quality education. How can you support this? By helping us get school uniforms, pens, books, paper drawing material. Every single school accessory comes a long way!!
The changes Akina Ties has on the community and the children in our care are at times visible. Grateful for the children in our care, changing lives one child at a time.
Akina Ties is about the impact we have on the community around us. This is a reminder of why we do what we do, education is the key. For this festive season we look forward to the new year and to keeping our children in school
The holidays are so long this time and through our girlie camp project we launched the Sports program where we are using soccer to address matters: FGM, Teen Pregancies and SRHR amongst the young adolescents. Our target group is 11-17 years who are considered to be at-risk.
It was a successful day and we had so much fun. Thank you Collectief Positief for always making sure that we reach out to the girls in our community.
Our main girlie camp program starts on the 12-16 December and if you are interested in sponsoring the girls you are welcomed. 100 girls will be in this camp and they all come from very disadvantaged backgrounds that's why we sponsor them to come to the event.
Some research using the concept of self-esteem suggests that girls and women who participate in sports and physical activity in both developed and developing countries demonstrate higher self-esteem as well as improved self-perception, self-worth and self-efficacy.
This Sunday, 12th November 2023 we launch our first program using sports to address FGM & Gender Equality. In partnership with Forever Africa PD, Rotary Club of Kisii-Central, Francisca Kwamboka Foundation, and Mevrose Resort, Kisii.
Thank you Collectief Positief for your kind donation of the Sport Kits that will be donated to one of the football teams.
To all the football lovers, let's all carry a packet of Sanitary towels to support the girl child in Kisii County.

We wish you all a blessed month ahead.
5 of our dear girls are sitting for their final exams starting monday! One is not in this picture!
It's been a journey of resilience and great determination for these beautiful young girls. When I first met each one of them what crossed my mind every night before I slept and every morning when i wike up was how can such a young person endure such huge trauma in their life and still be alive? They have proven to me day by day that all they needed was someone to love them and be there for them, the rest they can do on their own!
Here they are! Finishing one part of their study and looking forward to the next part!
I thank each and everyone of you who gives every month or each time towards the running of our rescue center. Without you these girls could not be here, they couldn't have overcomed what they have in this part of their life. We thank you and we wish them success from our hearts and our prayers will be with them this coming week as they sit for their final primary education exams.
Ahsante sana (thank you very much)
We wish all our supporters who are teachers a great day today
