You Raise Me Up

After today's Christmas program, the 4th graders sang a song dedicated to their parents and the YCS teachers as they will be leaving this school year.

How do you teach fractions, time, addition, and word problems all in one math class? You bake cookies!

Today, We are so thankful and blessed to have our YCS Parent as a guest speaker for the all school worship. Thank you Caroline and Luke Downen come again this year. We had a great opportunity get to know about some Christmas traditions and the true meaning behind Christmas. We enjoy singing, hearing the Christmas stories and making Christmas crafts. Once again, we are so grateful for your hard work to share your hearts and hands in service to YCS Family.

Thanksgiving is a time for us to stop and praise God for all the blessings in our lives. You are at the top of our list of the things for which we are grateful. It is with great joy that we ask for the Lord to bless our YCS Community, Parents, Students, Staff and Teachers. Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Today was a very special day of celebration in all we are thankful for. The “turkey and fixings” also hit the spot.
Hopefully all students and families who ordered their own thanksgiving bento boxes outside of the school event are enjoying an effortlessly delicious meal at home.
It can be hard to remember to be thankful in times that are hard, especially during the pandemic we have been going through for a while now. Kindergarten has been practicing, however, to have a thankful heart despite the seasons of difficulty by writing what they are thankful for and putting them into their own individual thankful jar. It will be so fun for parents to read when they take them home on the last day of November!

Kindergarten class has been having a blast learning about yen and American currency starting this past week. All the students get very excited to play shop and get very into their parts. Some even sold their own jackets (of course just pretend 😉)
Learning to count is such an important skill. It teaches us not only the ability to go shopping or take inventory or any of the other common uses of numbers, but it also teaches us to count our blessings. Just like money, blessings are countable too.

A Walk in a Teacher’s Shoes

Here's our newest blog this month.

A Walk in a Teacher’s Shoes The teacher plays an important role in the lives of every student. In a year, a teacher gets to spend 180-210 days (depending on the country) with their students making the school their second home. We, teachers, become the second parent to our students in nurturing and educating the learners. Thus,...

Two more days before the YCS elementary gets to vote their classmates running in class for a certain position.

This activity aims to teach students mini politics in choosing leaders for the class body. It teaches support and motivates students to bring out their best as a good citizen at home and at school.

Why should we praise and worship God with our children?

The Bible affirms that praise, singing and worship should be an integral part of our lives. Throughout the Old and New Testaments, we are consistently taught to:

Sing the praises of the Lord, you His faithful people; praise His holy name. – Psalm 30:4

Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things. – Psalm 98:1

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. – Colossians 3:16

At YCS, one of our great privileges and responsibilities is to:
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are young they will not turn from it. – Proverbs 22:6

Educating our children includes teaching them foundational spiritual songs that will help them to know God more fully, love Him more dearly, and draw closer to Him!

Here are some lovely songs sung by Seeds and Sprouts classes. Enjoy!

Have you ever heard about the Golden Rule?
“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31)
This scripture is YCS 2021-2022 school theme.

We all carry an invisible bucket that contains our feelings. When our bucket is full, we feel great. When our bucket is empty, we feel sad. A bucket filler is someone who says or does nice things for other people. By doing this, they are filling other people’s buckets and filling their own bucket at the same time.

On the other hand, a bucket dipper says or does things to cause other people to feel bad. A bucket dipper empties their bucket when they say and do mean things. We are learning to be bucket fillers not dippers!

Look at our preschoolers, they are learning what they can do be a bucket filler. We would like to encourage your family to make your own bucket and continue to spread this positive motto to one another.

We had a Day Camp at school yesterday for Upper Elementary Class. It was purely nonacademic day to relieve from academic stress as we are getting near the end of the school year. The students had lots of fun and would like to do a day camp every day. We hope that next school year will be better for us to do the school sleep over and camping.

We are so thankful for all who participated in our school picnic today. We enjoyed spending time with all of you and hope that you had a great time too. Here is the wonderful moment and we would love to share with you. Please do not forget: “With Christ on our vessel we can smile at the storm.”
Have a restful weekend and a blessed Sunday.

Song lyrics: With Christ In The Vessel
With Christ on my vessel,
I can smile at the storm;
Smile at the storm,
Smile at the storm.
With Christ on my vessel,
I can smile at the storm;
Until HE leads me home.
Sailing, I am sailing home,
Sailing, I am sailing home.
With Christ on my vessel,
I can smile at the storm;
Until HE leads me home.

Our Story

Yokohama Christian School (YCS) is an interdenominational Christian school located on the Bluff in Yokohama and serves as a ministry of Yokohama Union Church. We welcome families from all backgrounds who wish to have an international education in English. YCS has created a nurturing and academically challenging environment for students aged two years to grade 5.

Yokohama Christian School began as the YUC International Kindergarten in 2002. Throughout the years, as the school has grown, the need for an elementary program has become apparent. In 2013, our first elementary classroom was opened and the name of the school changed to Yokohama Christian School to reflect the wider scope of the school mission.

We are happy to offer a Classical Christian curriculum that fosters strong independent thinkers and a lifelong love of learning.
