10th Missile Defense Battery had the honor of hosting Lt. Gen. Kevin Schneider, the Commander of United States Forces Japan, to the Shariki Communications Site for a tour and key leader engagement.

The visit began with a delicious bento box lunch while Maj. Chris Chambers and 1st Sgt. Michael Miller, the 10th MDB command team, briefed an overview of their mission, capabilities, and bilateral partnership – truly capturing their unit story.

Lt. Gen. Schneider then explored the site, receiving briefings from NCOs and Soldiers such as Spc. Additionally, 10th MDB contracting teams met and briefed the commander, enhancing his understanding of the unit mission.

Our bilateral partner, Lt. Col. Daisuke Negishi and Warrant Officer Yutaka Sato, JASDAF Shariki Sub Base command team, also made the opportunity to meet with Lt. Gen. Schneider during his tour.

Before departing, Lt. Gen. Schneider took the time to present USFJ challenge coins to two outstanding Soldiers for their exceptional performance: Sgt. Olaoluwa Adeyemi, 92Y- Supply Sergent, and Sgt. Darrel Marcelle, 14E - Radar Operator / Team Lead.

The 38th Air Defense Artillery Brigade and 10th MDB, Shariki Communications Site 車力通信所 第10ミサイル防衛中隊 were enthused to host Lt. Gen. Schneider and thoroughly enjoyed the engagement with our top commander in Japan! By Valor and Power, Sir!

Today we unveiled and cut the ribbon on our new Samurai Lounge Resiliency Center. This little room has done a complete 180*. Life can be a little mundane with COVID and our location. Hopefully this center can put a smile on our Soldier’s faces. Wish we could do more for them. We didn’t want to be outdo the mighty 38th Air Defense Artillery Brigade Gauntlet opening as well! A special thanks to the USO for all their help!

"Before you get on a motorcycle and ride, you need to make sure you have the correct personal protective gear, inspect your ride using T-CLOCKS, and most importantly, have the skills necessary to be safe."

Personal Protective Gear includes full-fingered gloves; over-the-ankle shoes; long-sleeved shirt and pants; a DOT-approved helmet, and during times of low visibility, a reflective belt.

T-CLOCK is a mnemonic developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation for assisting you in doing a comprehensive pre-ride (or a pre-purchase) inspection of a motorcycle. It is easily memorized and very useful. The individual letters stand for the specific areas to check:
T — Tires & Wheels
C — Controls
L — Lights
O — Oil
C — Chassis
K — Kickstand

The United States Army Garrison Japan Safety Office offers the skill enhancement course necessary to keep you safe on the road. The Basic Rider’s Course is a one-time, new or unlicensed, rider’s course. For Soldiers, BRC starts the progressive training program. The Experienced Rider Course is recommended beginning 90 days from completion of the BRC and within one year of the BRC. Following that, the ERC is recompleted every five years. For civilians, this class is not mandatory, but may help obtain a stateside motorcycle endorsement. For Soldiers and Civilians, completing the BRC adds motorcycle to your SOFA drivers permit.

BRC and ERC are offered right here at Camp Zama, Japan from May until October. Please contact the USAGJ Safety Office at DSN 263-4464 or ask your unit motorcycle mentor for more information on upcoming classes.
