Himeji Castle (姫路城, Himeji-jō) is a hilltop Japanese castle complex situated in Himeji, a city in the Hyōgo Prefecture of Japan. The castle is regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture, comprising a network of 83 rooms with advanced defensive systems from the feudal period. The castle is frequently known as Hakuro-jō or Shirasagi-jō ("White Egret Castle" or "White Heron Castle") because of its brilliant white exterior and supposed resemblance to a bird taking flight.

Hata-jirushi (旗印) were the most common of war banners used on the medieval Japanese battlefield. Every flag has each kamon, a symbol of the family, and it shows what family the samurai belong to.

Unagi (うなぎ) is freshwater eel. Unagi may be prepared in a variety of ways, but the most popular style is called kabayaki in which the unagi fillets are grilled and basted in a savory sweet sauce. If you use Narita airport, you should try it cuz Narita is famous for Unagi. Especially, Kawatoyo(川豊) on 2nd photo is famous and crowded everyday.

This is a monument of the Battle of Sekigahara (Shinjitai: 関ヶ原の戦い; Kyūjitai: 關ヶ原の戰い, Hepburn romanization: Sekigahara no Tatakai), was a historical battle in Japan which occurred on October 21, 1600 (Keichō 5, 15th day of the 9th month) in what is now Gifu Prefecture, Japan, at the end of the Sengoku period.

This battle was fought by the forces of Tokugawa Ieyasu against a coalition led by Ishida Mitsunari, from which several commanders defected before or during the battle, leading to a Tokugawa victory.

You can see this street light in Sawara city(1hour train from Narita airport). The art shows a float pulled in a Festival that is one of the three major float festivals of Kanto, it has a history dating back about 300 years.

The vaunted float dashi was registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in December this year. The floats made of zelkova wood are decorated with ornate Kanto engraving, with the tops adorned with figurines around four meters tall made by famous craftsmen from the Edo and Meiji periods, along with other dolls. With the sounds of “sawara bayashi,” one of the three great festival musical performances of Japan, echoing through the streets, the floats make their way past the houses of “Little Edo” in a scene that evokes the Edo period.

Namba Yasaka shrine(難波八阪神社) is famous for its lion-shaped stage, which stands out as a unique piece of architecture, especially compared with the austere temple beside it. It’s not hard to draw a parallel with Osaka’s kaleidoscopic mix of traditional, retro, modern and futuristic, distilled at this secret shrine smack in the center of the city’s bawdiest entertainment district.

The lion’s head stage was built in 1975 and has a delightfully retro feel, as striking as something you might find in Las Vegas or a theme park. It stands 12 meters tall and seven meters deep. The huge lion’s mouth is believed to swallow evil spirits and bring good luck, especially for those looking to do well in school and business matters. Because of this many people visit the shrine during exam time or the start and end of the financial year.

This is how Japanese 1 yen coin has changed.

The 1-yen coin (一円硬貨, Ichi-en kōka) is the smallest denomination of the Japanese yen currency. Historically they were initially made of both silver and gold in the early 1870s. Issues facing the Japanese government at the time included wanting to adopt the gold standard, and competing against the Mexican dollar for use in foreign trade. The decision was made to use silver one yen coins exclusively outside of Japan for trade, while gold coins were minted and used in mainland Japan. Gold and silver coins were eventually allowed to co-circulate in mainland Japan from 1878 to 1897 when they were demonetized. Millions of former one yen silver coins were countermarked by the Japanese government for use outside of the mainland. Silver one yen coins continued to be minted until 1914 for backing up currency.

One yen coins were not made again until after World War II in the late 1940s for a brief period of time. The current one yen coin design was first minted in 1955, is made up of pure aluminium, and has a young tree design which has been used since. Between 2011 and 2013 and since 2016, production of the coin was confined to mint sets due to lack of demand caused by increased usage of electronic money. Like with the U.S. penny, the Japan Mint has minted one-yen coins at a loss due to the rising cost of the base metal used in the coins.

Hiroshima Castle (広島城, Hiroshimajō), also called the Carp Castle, is a good example of a castle built on a plain in the center of a city as opposed to hilltop and mountaintop castles. Its main keep is five stories tall, and its grounds are surrounded by a moat. Also within the castle's precincts are a shrine, some ruins and a few reconstructed buildings of the Ninomaru (second circle of defense).

Hiroshima developed as a castle town, whereby the castle was both the physical and economical center of the city. Built in 1589 by the powerful feudal lord Mori Terumoto, Hiroshima Castle was an important seat of power in western Japan. While it was spared the demolishment that many other castles met during the Meiji Period, like the rest of the city, Hiroshima Castle was destroyed by the atomic bomb in 1945.

The five-arched, wooden Kintai Bridge, was constructed of cypress, chestnut, zelkova, pine, cypress, and oak. It spans the Nishiki River in Iwakuni City , in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The bridge's aspect changes significantly depending on the season and time of day, attracting photographers and artists such as Hokusai.

Cross the bridge and enter Kikko Park, which brings to mind the homes where samurai families once lived.

Mekari Jinja. Mekari means Wakame one of the seaweeds. This shrine, located at the northern edge of Kyushu, stands against the background of the Kanmon Strait.
The shrine was built taking advantage of the visit of Empress Jingu, the consort of the 14th Emperor Chuai, to this place when she invaded the Korean peninsula (an episode known as "sankan-seibatsu").
Erected around 200 AD, the shrine was once called "Hayato-no-miya" or "Hayato Myojin," and renamed Mekari-jinja in 1809.
In the precincts are a monument to a haiku by Takahama Kyoshi, a monument to literary works by Matsumoto Seicho, and a monument to a renga poem by Iio Shogi.

This is a corridor of the Sh*tennoji temple founded in 593 by Prince Shotoku, who supported the introduction of Buddhism into Japan. Must try in Osaka.
