Sakai City Traditional Crafts Museum is one of facilities where you can get benefits with Osaka Amazing Pass. Do you know that there is a KNIFE MUSEUM on the 2nd floor? It has just renewed on April 1st. Actually, Sakai is famous as the town of blades in Kansai Area.

The museum introduces Sakai blades history, kinds of knives, and how to use knives from the various points of view.

Also, our symbolic chandelier called “HIBANA” set in the middle of museum. It is made of about 300pcs of blades. It is quite gorgeous and powerful.

毎年大人気のお花見クルーズ「大川さくらクルーズ」が3月27日㈯～4月11日㈰まで運航されます。天満橋の船着場を出航し、レンガ造りの造幣局、南天満公園の桜並木を眺める約25分間の大川遊覧です。10分～30分間隔で随時出航するので、予約無しで気軽に楽しめますよ。大阪周遊パスを使えばもちろん無料で乗船できます。

The very popular cherry-blossom-viewing Okawa River Sakura Cruise will run from March 27 (Sat.) through April 11 (Sun.). The boat leaves from a pier in Tenmabashi and takes you sightseeing along the Okawa River for approximately 25 minutes while you gaze at the cherry-tree-lined paths of the brickwork Japan Mint and Minami-Tenma Park. Boats depart every 10-30 minutes as needed, so you can easily enjoy this cruise without a reservation. And of course, you can board for free with the Osaka Amazing Pass.

大阪シンボルのひとつとして親しまれている通天閣。ライトアップされた通天閣は遠くからでも目を引きます。中に入るとエレベーターや小さな展示に至るまでディープな大阪らしさに溢れています。４・5階の展望台から外を眺めると昼間とはまた違った美しい景色を見ることできます。時間があれば、より高い特別屋外展望台に出ると遮るものが無く更に美しい夜景が楽しめますよ。
ところでこの通天閣、実は2代目なのです。昔は新世界ルナパークという遊園地の中にありとても賑わっていたそうです。どのような経緯で建てられ、姿を消し、復活を遂げたのかを知る展示コーナーもおすすめです。

Tsutentaku Tower is a well-known symbol of Osaka. When lit up, it catches the eye even from afar. Everything inside, from the elevator to the small exhibitions, is overflowing with abundant Osaka flair. You can see a different lovely view of the city looking out from the observation deck on the fourth and fifth floors at nighttime. If you have time, going out to the higher special outdoors observation platform lets you enjoy an even more beautiful, unobstructed night view.
By the way, this Tsutenkaku Tower is actually the second generation. The original used to be in an amusement park called Shinsekai Luna Park, and it was reportedly bustling. We recommend the exhibition corner explaining the details of how it was built, disappeared, and then achieved a revival.
Be sure to visit Tsutenkaku Tower with its many attractions.

今や道頓堀のランドマークにもなったドン・キホーテ道頓堀店 観覧車「えびすタワー」。この観覧車は吊り下げ式ではなく、レールの上を動くタイプ。通常の観覧車のように円を描きながらの上昇ではなく、真上に上がっていく少し独特の乗り心地です。
正面に見えるのは新しい道頓堀のシンボル「だるま大臣人形」。この人形は時間によって回転するので、どの角度で見えるかは乗ってからのお楽しみ。他にもあべのハルカスや通天閣なども見えます。VRゴンドラでは360度の映像や、昼間でも夜景を楽しむことができますよ。

The Ebisu Tower Ferris wheel atop Don Quixote has now become a Dotombori landmark. This Ferris wheel is not the type with hanging cabins; instead, it runs on a rail. It doesn’t rise up in a circle like ordinary Ferris wheels but gives you a bit of a unique feeling of going directly up.

The figure you’ll see in front of the ride is the new symbol of Dotombori, Daruma Daijin. This figure revolves according to the time, so you can look forward to finding out which angle you’ll see it from when you get on. You can also see Abeno Harukas and the Tsutenkaku Tower. The virtual reality cabins show you 360-degree video, and you can enjoy a night view even in the daytime. A regular pass is 100 yen off, and a virtual reality cabin is 600 yen off with the Osaka Amazing Pass!

A five-minute walk from the Hanshin Electric Railway’s Amagasaki Station. Amagasaki Castle is a new tourist spot, restored thanks to donations from city residents and the founder of the former electronics retailer Midori Denka.
Take the elevator to the fifth floor of the castle keep and you can use a tablet to compare today’s view with that of the Edo period. You’ll easily see how the building-lined scenery in front of you used to be land encircled by rice fields and the sea. The fourth floor is a gallery, and you can try on traditional Japanese clothing in the space with the golden sliding doors on the third floor. You can also try virtual reality fencing or shooting on the second floor. This facility offers not only exhibits to see but hands-on experiences, too, so children and adults can enjoy themselves! Admission is 20% off with the Osaka Amazing Pass!

今週と来週は堺にある町家歴史館を紹介します。
今回は南海電鉄の七道駅から徒歩約４分にある堺市立町家歴史館清学院。ここは修験道の寺院という歴史がある建物です。古くから地域に密着した寺院で、江戸時代後期から明治初期にかけては「清光堂」という寺小屋が営まれていました。
室内に並ぶ小さな机がとてもかわいくて、仏典を求めて初めてヒマラヤを超えた日本人の河口慧海もここで学んだそうです。大阪周遊パスを使えば入館無料です！

This week and next, we’ll introduce the Machiya Historical Museum in Sakai.
Today, we’ll tell you about the Sakai Municipal Machiya Historical Museum Seigakuin , which is about a four-minute walk from Shichido Station on the Nankai Electric Railway. The building has history as a temple for ascetic practices. The temple had close ties to the area from long ago and operated a small private school for children called “Seikodo” from the late Edo through the early Meiji periods.
The little desks lined up inside are quite cute, and Ekai Kawaguchi, the first Japanese person to cross the Himalayas in search of Buddhist scriptures, is also said to have studied here. Admission is free with the Osaka Amazing Pass!

2020年の大河ドラマ「麒麟がくる」でも度々登場した堺。さかい利晶の杜では、ドラマで再現されていた国際都市堺の紹介や、この地で生まれた千利休ゆかりの品々を展示しています。
また、施設にある千利休が作ったとされる四畳半の復元茶室「無一庵」では、茶道がわからなくても、その世界の雰囲気を感じることができます。
２階は堺のもう一人の代表的な人物、与謝野晶子の記念館になっています。彼女の詩の世界が楽しめる映像展示や、晶子からあなたに向けたメッセージが検索できる「晶子のメッセージ」のコーナーなど、与謝野晶子の魅力がたっぷり詰まった空間になっています。

Sakai appeared frequently in the 2020 historical drama TV series Kirin ga Kuru. Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko is hosting a presentation on the cosmopolitan city of Sakai recreated in the series and exhibiting various items related to the tea master Sen no Rikyu, who was born there.
Whether or not you’re familiar with the tea ceremony, you can also experience the ambiance of that world in the establishment’s small, tatami-floored tearoom Muichian, a reconstruction of a tearoom considered to have been built by Sen no Rikyu.
The second floor has been turned into the Yosano Akiko Museum for another of Sakai’s well-known figures. The space is packed full of the fascinations of Yosano Akiko, such as a video exhibit that lets you enjoy the world of her poetry and the “Messages from Akiko” corner, where you can search for messages from Akiko to you.

The HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel is an Umeda, Osaka landmark. It’s yet another facility you can use for free with the Osaka Amazing Pass. You’ll be greeted by the brand-new NMB48 signboard!
Although the Ferris wheel is in the center of the city, it takes you to an impressive height! You can plug in your smartphone inside the cabin to listen to your favorite music over the speakers, so we recommend creating a 15-minute playlist to anyone who wants to make a special memory (you can connect the speakers to your earphone jack). You’re sure to catch sight of Osaka Castle while you’re looking over the city! How about a nice ride in the sky?

The Tempozan Giant Ferris Wheel is one of the facilities you can visit for free with the Osaka Amazing Pass. This 100-meter-in-diameter Ferris wheel will catch your attention soon after you leave the station, but you’ll get the full impact when you’re closer. Its biggest attraction is the scenery from a height you ordinarily can’t experience, so we recommend hopping into one of the see-through cabins overlooking a 360-degree view!
The Osaka Port scenery changes from morning to night depending on the time, so there’s a different charm no matter how many times you ride. We suggest going in the evening, when the Ferris wheel is illuminated with lights.

御座船から眺める石垣はとても壮大で美しいです。運が良ければ、水面に映る天守閣の絶景も見えますよ！
豆知識：内堀の石垣には、江戸時代の頃から人の顔の形をした石が隠されています。「人面石」と呼ばれ、魔除けのためにはめ込まれたもので、大阪城にしかありません。見つけるのは少し難しいですが、ぜひチャレンジしてみてくださいね！

Using the Osaka Amazing Pass gets you free entrance to four establishments, including Osaka Castle Museum, in the Osaka Castle area alone. One of them is the Osaka-jo Gozabune boat, in which you can enjoy a leisurely 20-minute sightseeing ride in Osaka Castle’s inner moat.
The stone walls seen from the boat are quite majestic and beautiful. If you’re lucky, you can also catch a superb glimpse of the tower reflected on the surface of the water!
Trivia: a stone in the shape of a human face has been hidden in the inner moat’s wall since the Edo period. Called the “human-faced stone,” it was set in the wall to ward off evil spirits, and only Osaka Castle has such a feature. It’s a bit hard to find, but go ahead and try!
