This S211 model and silhouette is available only overseas. We use a strong tapered cut with a
deep rise and a slightly loose fit. Models using this fabric also include:
S5000BKII MID LOW RISE STRAIGHT FIT (already released in 2023AW)
S710XX-BK MID RISE SLIM STRAIGHT (scheduled to be released in 2024SS)
However, this model is the only one with a tapered cut.

“ZERO“ BUSHIDO 17oz BLACK DENIM

You can even see the uneven texture of these beauties in the picture. The secret to producing
texture like this lies in the original thick yarns that are used. The same yarns as those used in our
ZERO BUSHIDO 17oz are employed, giving it a look that is in keeping with the Samurai Jeans
aesthetic. After intensive, ongoing research we select the cotton production areas every year and
adjust the exact percentages to maintain that uneven, slubby feel. The yarn is then dyed with
sulfide dyes, black on the outside, white on the inside, before being woven slowly and carefully at
very low tension. The low-tension weave creates an even more uneven look when the fabric is
eventually washed.

When you hear the words "black denim" you probably think of something shiny with a beautifully
smooth texture, but this denim is the complete opposite. This denim has a rugged and hard-
wearing look, similar to other Samurai fabrics, but not so over-the-top that it's going to look out of
place in whatever your daily style might be. It's a really unique fabric, but one that can still be
styled and worn in a variety of combinations and situations.

S211BK – “ KOKU-BENKEI” RELAX TAPERED JEANS

The S211VX model featuring Musashibo Benkei, a warrior monk who bravely wielded a *naginata
to protect his master and whose imposing but dignified way of life has been handed down through
the generations, is now available in black denim. On the flasher, Benkei can be seen standing
stoically on a moonlit night.
* The naginata is one of Japan’s most ancient weapons and resembles a long pole with a curved
blade at one end.

Back in the day, BUSHIDO 17oz black denim was one of Samurai's standard fabrics.
Unfortunately, because of the very few looms that were able to weave a fabric this rugged and
slubby, and also because of conflicts with the production of other indigo fabrics, we had to say a
tearful goodbye to this fabric after having a serious and realistic review our standard items. Six
years later, on our 25th anniversary, we are back in black with our new Zero Black denim.

“Making things in Japan, for Japan, in the Japanese way”

Cotton has a long history in Japan, flourishing first during the Edo period (1603~1867),
especially in and around Osaka where Samurai jeans is located, but then going into steady decline from the Meiji period onwards (1868~) as demand outstripped supply and importing became the norm.
It was right in the heart of this decline that we decided to stand, take up the challenge of our ancestors, and restore the pride once found in the old, traditional ways of doing things. We aim to revive these age-old techniques, and pass them on to our children and grandchildren to ensure these traditions get passed on to future generations. This is our pledge.

SAMURAI COTTON “KINARI” JEANS

SLIM STRAIGHT TAPERED FIT

The Japanese color “kinari” roughly translates as ecru or beige, and is a beautiful
natural hue achieved here by keeping and using all the little bits of cotton stems and
leaves that are usually thrown away. We’ve created an original thread that retains all
this natural goodness, and have left out any kind of dyeing or bleaching in order to preserve the look and feel of the original cotton itself. We then wove these natural
threads on vintage looms, resulting in a gorgeous ‘kinari’ color and a texture that is at once heavy, uneven, yet eminently wearable. A texture not to be found anywhere else.

Natural color: Purposely not bleached or dyed, we’ve preserved the natural ecru color and atmosphere of the organic cotton itself. This color is known as ‘kinari’ in Japanese.

This project started with the dream of creating things 100% organically and domestically with our very own hands. The cotton would be grown and hand-harvested by us, and then used to make the highest-quality clothing possible. It sounds like a simple enough idea, but it’s
extremely difficult in practice.

Chestnut color : Along with black soybeans, the Sasayama area is also famous for its own brand of chestnuts called “Tamba” chestnuts. We’ve extracted a dye from the astringent skins of these chestnuts and mixed it up to make a really attractive color.
