Due to ’s extreme heat and humidity, intense physical activity during the months of May through October can be risky.

Many newcomers underestimate the importance of acclimatization to Okinawa’s hot and humid weather. Allowing your body time to adjust and naturally adapt to this new environment is critical.

Newcomers aren’t the only ones who need to be careful. Okinawa’s high levels of heat and pose risks to acclimatized personnel as well. To ensure you, your and family members understand the heat flag conditions and activity limitations, check out the graphic below!

In line with the recent theme of emergency preparedness and education for those new to our community, let’s talk about tsunamis 🌊. Though the threat of a tsunami is low, consequences can be high so you don’t have to be scared, but you should be prepared. These links will give you maps for off base areas around Okinawa and an interactive map for the camps and installations. Use these maps to develop your safety plan. Please look at the info key. Red areas are to be evacuated for estimated tsunamis of 0-5 meters, yellow 6-20 meters, green or gray areas are for 21 meters and above.

PREPAREDNESS TIPS:

-Use Google maps on your phone to identify your closest safe spot and add a label so you can pull it up fast in an emergency.

-keep a go bag with some cash, important documents, and a change of clothes ready to easily grab and go. Tsunamis are fast so do not delay if you require an evacuation.

-if you live in a tower in a flood zone, go to the 4th floor or higher.

Again, these events are very rare, but knowledge is power! We will continue to provide emergency preparedness information throughout the coming weeks for our new Oki family! Happy 4th of July everyone!

There’s some rumors of a storm brewing in the Pacific region. As many of you have just arrived this PCS season, we at the camp want you to know that we will push out any official word on this platform as it becomes available. At this time the projections are too far out for any notices or TCCOR changes. It is however typhoon season. Please prepare your home with 3-5 days of non-perishable foods and water. Have a plan for highly perishable items, like breast milk, in the event of a power outage. The structures and homes in Okinawa are built to a high standard to withstand typhoons and earthquakes. The camp will start posting preparation links for your reference. JTWC is the site that is utilized for official typhoon tracking and projections

16 July (0800-1800): Camp Courtney Family housing areas South. This will include the towers and the multiplexes on 22nd Marine Drive and 4th Marine Drive.

Kadena family housing has stated they will make notification to residents starting this week with more specifics. We will continue to update this post as more information becomes available.

The camp has been receiving requests from our host nation neighbors to please ensure you are only parking in PUBLIC parking when enjoying the new playground on 224. The playground does not have a designated parking lot, it is recommended to park along the road on 224. Please do not park in residential spots or block any residential lots.

An elevation to the Force Protection (FPCON) posture has been directed for Marine Corps Installations Pacific-Marine Corps Base Butler.

As a result of this elevated posture, please expect a return to 100% ID checks at the gates, and an increase in randomized personnel and vehicle searches – both privately-owned and commercial. As a result, please anticipate longer in-transit times. Camp Services and Operations remains committed to providing you the best possible experience, while we carry out all necessary actions to ensure the safety and security of all of our guests, residents, tenants and tenant commands.

1) ⛔️ Tomorrow, 13 June, services in 4319 will be limited and parking for the building will be closed throughout the day. Access to the Courtney Beach will also be closed for the day.

2) 💡 21 June 0900-1600 there will be a power outage on Camp Courtney impacting the whole camp (A and B sides) North of the underpass. This outage is to make final repairs following the large emergency outage that occurred in April 🐍

3) 💡 9 July 0900-1200 there will be a power outage on McT impacting the following buildings:

We have officially entered typhoon season in Okinawa. Please start preparing your typhoon supplies for the season and have a plan for securing your home appropriately if a storm is spotted. There are currently no storms in the forecast, but we will remain in a TCCOR status throughout the season.
