とてもきれいな桜吹雪の光景です

昨年春のKUROはまだ改装中で家具も入っていなかったこともあり、今年の桜の光景は特に感慨深いです

来年も素敵な桜がみれますように

You are in a treat as you witness the stunning scene of cherry blossom petals gently falling around you. Last year, KURO was still undergoing renovations and had yet to be furnished, making this year’s cherry blossom display even more meaningful.

Leaving a record here so you can plan ahead for your next year’s sakura season. You can of course visit us earlier in the summer months when you can enjoy Hyakumangoku Matsuri festival in Kanazawa as well as lush and green gardens and parks including the infamous Kenroku-en and Gyokusen-in.

Tiny snowflakes adored our shop curtains and now it’s like a starry night.

, honorable calligrapher who designed our favorite logo shared his concept:

“The alphabet ‘U’ is like a communal plate that accepts you and various characters gathering at KURO. ‘O’ is like a moon floating in the night sky, watching over you as you travel the world.”

He drew his logo using a wooden charcoal. We love it very much. Thank you Kamamura san!

建物の歷史 History of the Building of KURO (See below for English)

江戸時代、金沢城隣のこの一帯は加賀藩前田家の家老屋敷地の一つでした（”加賀八家”前田長種系の屋敷跡地です）。

この町家の奥にはその時代に4つあった土蔵のうちの1つが今も残っています（非公開）

明治時代、富山県高岡市に総本家がある名家室崎家の木綿問屋になりました。

昭和初期にはこの町家の大改修がなされました。
その際には新築するより多くの改装費用がかかったそうです。

木綿問屋は第二次世界大戦中に廃業となりますが、木綿問屋としては約40年その役割を担いました。

その後も近年まで室崎家の個人邸宅として大切に使われてきました。

二階suiteの窓に付いている鉄柵は第二次世界大戦時の武器供出の際にも拒否したとのこと。

近隣の町家はその際に供出したため、近隣ではこの家にのみ残っているそうです。

隣接する現在のゲストハウス白とつながる戸があったり、現在のsuiteのリビングルームに茶室茶釜跡なども発見されています。

During the Edo period, the area next to Kanazawa Castle was one of the Karo’s (a high ranking samurai official who served as a chief counsel or to a daimyo) mansions belonging to the Maeda clan, one of the "Kaga Hachike" families (the site of the residence of Maeda Nagatane's lineage).

Of the four storehouses that existed in that era, one remains behind this townhouse today (our storehouse is not open to the public).

In the Meiji period, it became a cotton wholesale business for the prestigious Murozaki family, whose main residence was in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture.

During the early Showa period, the townhouse underwent a major renovation that was more costly than building a new one, but it was worth it to preserve its rich history.

As a cotton wholesaler, the business served its purpose for almost four decades, until it closed down during World War II.

But the townhouse lived on, cherished as the personal residence of the Murozaki family, and a true testament to their passion for preservation.

Remarkably, the iron fence on the second-floor suite window was refused to be handed over as a weapon during World War II, making it the only one of its kind in the area.

And today, you can still experience the building's rich history and unique character for yourself, with a connecting door to the sister guesthouse "Shiro," and intriguing traces of a tea room and tea kettle found in the living room of the current suite.

Another view of our common lounge on the first floor facing the main road. We carefully preserved old walls and an antique chair lovingly used by the previous residents of this historic shophouse. This can be your private 'Third Place' where you can take a little breather after a long day of adventure and journal away before you dive into a soft pillow for a good night's sleep.

Little scars of history on the walls, let them be.

この建物に元々あった文机と、
それに合わせてつくった座椅子に、
鉄の脚を。Custom-made floor chairs were given slender iron legs to befriend an old occupant, the antique desk.

独特な模様のガラスと格子が光を複雑にしてくれます. Intricate glass patterns paint the floor with light so the shadows stretch towards you, begging you for a night dance.

KUROにはデラックスルームとスイートルームの計2部屋あります。Kuro is a cozy two stories shophouse featuring a Deluxe Room and an Executive Suite. Pictured here is our Deluxe Room (Scroll down for English ver.).

こちらのデラックスルームは1階にあり、23.3㎡の広さです。

中庭側の静かな環境で、客室に併設する坪庭には能登に自生している藪椿の木を植えおり、灯籠やつくばいは改装前からこの町家にあったものを使用しています。

客室にはシモンズのマットレスと寝具を使用したキングサイズベッドが1台あり、1〜2名様でゆったりご宿泊いただけます。

専用シャワールームはレインシャワーを備えた黒タイルとモルタルの空間となっております。

無垢材のフローリングには床暖房設備を入れているため、冬でも足元から暖かく快適にお過ごしいただけます（1階のデラックスルームのみ床暖房設備があります）。

当宿泊施設の改修設計を担当した橋本建築造園設計の橋本氏デザインによるリノリウムと栗の木を使用したオリジナルテーブル、デンマーク製のビンテージチェア、専用トイレ、ミニ冷蔵庫、加賀棒茶、セーフティボックス、空気清浄機のご用意もあります。

客室の天井は柿渋染の和紙、壁は左官による伝統的な土の塗り壁、床はヒノキの無垢材を使用しており、この建物に眠っていた油団（ゆとん）を使用した橋本氏デザインのアートパネルが抽象画のように空間に深みを与えています。

夜のデラックスルームは、ガラスに映り込んだ侘びた室内とガラス越しの坪庭が重なり、幻想的で非日常な光景が生み出されます。

街や市場で購入されたお酒やフルーツ、フードをご用意されましたら、夕食前の0次会、夕食後の2次会をKUROでプライベートにお楽しみいただけます。

Located on the first floor, the Deluxe Room is a 260sqf intimate space of tranquility. On the patio, you will see a Japanese 'Tsubaki' Camellia tree, often spotted growing naturally in the Noto region, sitting side by side with an antique stone lantern.

KURO opened its doors, quietly, on August 28th, 2022.

This ‘machiya’, a Japanese shophouse, has witnessed more than 140 years of history in this corner of a quaint town right beside the Kanazawa Castle.

A group of machiya enthusiasts of different generations gathered together to restore this architectural beauty. Preserving the traces of culture and a long history this shophouse has recorded and engraved in its wooden walls over the years, we curated the space borrowing inspirations from modern artworks from in and out of Japan.

We handpicked everything by mapping and studying every single texture and color co-existing in the machiya.

In this heritage hotel, where each space and atmosphere is carefully designed like a living artwork,

Becoming one with the tranquility of light and the scent of season,

We hope you feel at ease and spend quality time here at KURO.

KURO is brought to you by a dynamic team consisting of the owners of the machiya with experience living in more than 7 countries in the last 25 years and us, an artistic duo who are also working behind the scenes of Guesthouse Shiro.

We’ve joined the forces together with Mr. Hashimoto (), who is KURO and Guesthouse Shiro’s resident architect, mastermind, and a savior who has guided us throughout this project from the start to present. We are a group of diverse perspectives collaborating and working hard together to deliver unique experiences to our guests. We hope to share more about our stories and thoughts behind this project in this account very soon.
