OPP followers will be able to view photos, and get information about our current crop of pumpkins.
Way too much rain.....seeds are ready, soil is tilled, plastic rolled up....another adventure will start soon.
We have sold all our remaining pumpkins. Thank you....!
We are in the process of taking photos and pricing the remaining pumpkins. Thanks for your patience...
OPP update...
You only have to go to your local supermarket to see how the rains have impacted veggie prices. We lost more than half of our 320 pumpkins yet we must keep to the contracts with our major buyers (total of 125 Premium Pumpkins). That leaves us with 22 pumpkins to sell to the public. We had more than 100 about a month ago but you know what happened!
Please stay tuned.....we hope to open sales by Sept 20th.
Thank you for your patience and support.

You have to SHARE this one with friends.. isn't this one a cool idea?

Here's our weekly update....
We have pruned back the plants which means the crop will remain at its current amount. As we reported, we have to fill two large orders. If the weather stays fair, we will have 30 to 40 pumpkins up for sale. We had 100 but the typhoon and heavy rains wiped out quite a few great pumpkins. Next year, we will double our land size, and improve drainage.
Our current motto is, 'What we can't control at the moment, we will learn to control in the future'
Thanks for all your support!

We lost a bunch but some of our pumpkins grew quite a bit after the typhoon. Before and After photos of one of the Atlantic Giants. Three days growth....!

The typhoon claimed quite a few pumpkins.....here are a few pics.

There's good news and bad news. The bad news is the recent typhoon and torrential rains have taken a toll on the pumpkin patches. We've lost almost 30% of the crop due to a fungus caused by excess standing water. We have created drains in case the rain comes again. On to the good news, it looks like the rest of the pumpkins are healthy, and will be ready for the first week of October.
We have one large order to fill before we can sell to the general public...thanks for your patience.
It's been a real learning experience. We can only gain and go on.

Need more ideas to prepare for this years Halloween celebrations. Take a look at these two examples. Can't carve why not use cookie cutters? 93 DAYS to GO!

We've got 4 types of pumpkins growing at the moment. Atlantic Giants, Autumn Golds, White Luminas, and Cinderellas. (See in order of photos)

We get by with a little help from our friends....

Pollination....started.

Lots of flowers = pollination time at OPP North.

Pumpkin Nook : Pollination, Pollinating Pumpkins
We will be hand pollinating our plants in order to ensure each pumpkin has a good chance to grow.

We are starting to see the female flowers popping up all over the place. Next step, pollination!
We are proud to announce the launch of our website. Check it out at www.okpumpkinpatch.jp

We were a bit concerned that the 'Super Typhoon' would wipe out our crop. Here's proof.....OPP North and OPP South are looking green!

For those who like a larger Jack O' Lantern, OPP has planted a bunch of Atlantic Giants. Smaller Giants, are beach ball sized...with larger ones growing up to 80kg.

OPP has planted close to 80 Autumn Gold plants. Probably the most popular species of Jack O' Lantern pumpkins.

OK Pumpkin Patch will have a limited crop of White Lumina pumpkins. Here are a few pics we found on the net.

OPP South. Atlantic Giant plant.

OPP North. Starting to see a few flowers....looks like we're on schedule for an early October crop.

OPP South. Weeding done...rake later....

Amazing news! The farmer who owns the adjacent field to OPP South has allowed us to lease his field. Too bad it's a bit late for this season's crop but it will definitely help us next year. The gentleman was kind enough to plow it for us.

OPP North's plants are looking great. Here are some photos taken yesterday.

The recent rain and cool temps have helped the small seedlings to grow.....but so has the grass. OPP South.

Here are some crafty ways to decorate your pumpkins that could be great center pieces for dinner parties?

Everything you need to know about pumpkins. We will be posting interesting and random facts about pumpkins, the planting of pumpkins and the festivals that celebrate the use of pumpkins.
