Phil Chen is a well-known Chinese-Jamaican bassist who is known for his iconic style and rhythm. Phil Chen is a well-known Chinese-Jamaican bassist.

He was one of England's most utilized session bassists during the 1970s and 1980s, including being part of the Rod Stewart band from 1977 to 1980, but is probably best known for his later work with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors.

Born today, July 19, 1947 – Brian May, Guitarist, Singer & Songwriter Queen turns 76. Brian has co-written some of the most well-known Rock N’ Roll Anthems in Music History & with Queen scored over 40 U.K. Top 40 singles, his distinctive guitar tone is one of the most recognizable in Rock N’ Roll.

As a solo artists Brian May had the 1992 U.K. #5 single 'Too Much Love Will Kill You'. After Freddie Mercury’s death Brian along with Roger Taylor & Queen Manager Jim Beach created Mercury Phoenix Trust, a Charity Organization that provides education, prevention, & direct assistance to those affected by HIV/AIDS.

Queen is regarded as one of the greatest Rock Bands in Rock N’ Roll History & Brian is a big reason for that. Queen have sold over 300 million records. Recently May has released, a remastered version of 1983 ‘The Star Fleet Sessions’ which featured Eddie Van Halen, Roger Taylor, Phil Chen & Fred Mandel.

Brian May was inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 along with his Queen bandmates Freddie Mercury, John Deacon & Roger Taylor. In 2005 Brian was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to the music industry & his charity work. In 2007, He also earned a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London & on March 14, 2023 Brian was knighted by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace … Sir Brian Harold May CBE.

His business card read “Phil Chen De Bassman,” and his picks had “OD” after his name, standing for the Order of Distinction award he received in 2014 for his contributions to Jamaican music.
But Phil Chen’s reach went far beyond the instrument or his homeland. My dad was honored last night at the Asian Hall of Fame Inductee Awards Ceremony. We were able to attend on his behalf and we are so grateful to the Asian community for recognizing his achievements. We are so proud of him and he would have been so honored to be there last night!
