So, this morning I woke up at 6.00 am, checked my news feeds on my phone, and read about the passing of the legendary guitarist that is Jeff Beck.
Throughout the course of the day I have taken it upon myself to eulogise to every guitar student I have taught - 14 in total today - about the impact Jeff's music had on me growing up in the 1960's and 1970's in England and the importance musicians like him have on future generations of aspiring guitarists.
There may never be another Jeff Beck but the legacy he leaves will hopefully be reflected by the people touched by his genius like I have been.
As a guitar teacher in Jersey for many years I feel it is not only my duty to pass on my passion and knowledge of the guitar but equally to instill in young people the reasons behind my love of the instrument - and Jeff is very much part of that reasoning.
