Here’s a tale about an event that failed, how a massive production went from being an insane amusement park experience to a pretty decent club night.

WONDERWORLD was to be held at Paramount’s Great America theme park, with the entire park closed to the public. It was a huge undertaking, with five stages, a massive lineup, and multiple layers of promotion (including the two separate flyers seen here.)

But…less than two weeks before the event, Santa Clara Police put pressure on the theme park and they pulled out, despite the signed contracts. So much of the lineup was hurriedly moved to SF’s space550 club and the event was rebranded as “space550 sessions”. The show must go on, even at a significantly smaller scale and becoming 21+ instead of 18+.

The eventual party was good, but nowhere near what it potentially could have been. And it remains one of the biggest “what ifs” of my dj career.
