Although it cannot be considered innovative in a narrow sense, this model is unquestionably Breuer’s work. During this same period, other designers were working on the continuous tubular cantilever chair. Breuer’s version with the beechwood seat and back was nevertheless a brilliant solution to the necessity for the structural stiffening of the frame. In the h**p or wicker versions designed by Mart Stam, Anton Lorenz and Mies, metal bars introduced under the seat and behind the back provided the strength to keep the legs separated. In the 1960’s, the chair was renamed "Cesca", as a tribute to his daughter Cheska.
