How much power do Data Centers use:
@ 300 TWh globally in 2021 (1% of total electricity consumption)
@ in EU approx 2,7% of the power demand
@ Too much ? IMDA (Singapore Authority now halts new Data Center Developments: Introduction of a power cap to new applications (60MW) in total. Also The Netherlands are now restricting constructions of new Hyperscale DC, same in Northern Virginia
@ Conclusion: Very few projects launched in 2022. Many
delayed in the pipeline, waiting for brand new routes

Differences between Startups and Traditional SMEs:
A start-up is first established to bring a new business idea into existence. The new concept is conceived for business. Business is first established in the market and then thoughts are given about profits. Small-medium enterprises (SME) are established for profit only.
Innovative SMEs is a new intermediate class of SMEs focusing basically on a long term innovation process applied to and existing market .

More on Negative Impacts from War in Ukraine on Cloud and Data Center Industry:
* Energy Cost: Prices are now near record highs, peaking at €400 euros per MWh in some European markets shortly after the invasion in February. Because electricity prices globally are linked to liquid natural gas, forward prices across the world will remain high for at least the rest of 2022, especially in Europe.
* Colocation companies are the least exposed, because they buy in advance and it is usual to have the contractual right to pass on power prices to their customers. Some providers, however, offer forward pricing and price locks, and may be more exposed if they offer commodity hosting and cloud-like services too.
* The biggest cloud data center operators can only pass on power price increases by raising cloud prices.
* Similarly, Enterprises cannot pass on energy costs, except by charging more for their own products and services.
* Energy-saving projects may, such as upgrading inefficient cooling systems, recycling heat, raising temperatures, reducing unnecessary redundancy or addressing low IT utilization, may now be more financially viable.

Negative Impacts from War in Ukraine on Cloud and Data Center Industry:
* It significantly exacerbate the ongoing semiconductor shortage.
* Neon Gas shortage: Ukrainian companies Iceblick, Ingas, and Cryoin manufacture over 70% of the world’s neon gas supply.
* Neon is a gas used in semiconductor lithography, specifically deep-ultraviolet photolithography (DUV).
* The DUV process is used for transistors from 14nm to 248nm, including Intel’s Skylake and Cascade Lake processors.
* The last time the semiconductor industry experienced a severe neon shortage was in 2015/2016. That shortage was triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine’s Crimean region in 2014. Neon gas prices increased by 10x at the time of the shortage.
* Increase in cyberattack (supposedly from Russia)

A quick refresh on the Startup System in Italy:
* 14,077 Startups (as of 1.1.2022)
* 3/4 of them investing in the service (mainly B2B) segment
* Injected capital: 1,46B€ (as of 31.12.2021) vs. 4,9B€ in th UK
Italian Paradox: In a country where +200K SMEs contributing to the +40% of the total GdP, very active in all manufacturing sectors, only 1/3 of the overall Startups work on technologies and new product/system design.

More on Metaverse:
A metaverse platform can include several layers as follows:
* Infrastructure: 5G, 6G, WiFi, cloud, data center, central processing units, and GPUs.
* Human interface: mobile, smartwatch, smartglasses, wearable devices, head-mounted display..
* Decentralization: edge computing, AI agents, blockchain, and microservices.
* Spatial computing: 3D engines, VR, augmented reality (AR), XR, geospatial mapping, and multitasking.
* Creator economy: design tools, asset markets, Ecommerce, and workflow.
* Discovery: advertising networks, virtual stores, avatar, and chatbot.
* Experience: games, social, E-sports, shopping, festivals, events, learning, and working.
It is not hard to find out the presence of AI inside layers, with machine learning (ML) algorithms and deep learning (DL) architectures, along with their importance in many diversified aspects.
By merging AI with other technologies, such as AR/VR, blockchain, and networking, the metaverse can create secure, scalable, and realistic virtual worlds on a reliable and alwayson platform.
