About the Sala del Bramante Sacristy
The concerts take place in the historic Sala del Bramante, located within the complex of the Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie — one of the most important monuments of the Italian Renaissance in Milan.
The church and its adjoining convent were developed in the second half of the 15th century under the patronage of Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan. During this period, the renowned architect Donato Bramante contributed significantly to the architectural transformation of the complex, introducing a new spatial clarity and harmony characteristic of the High Renaissance.
Santa Maria delle Grazie is internationally celebrated as the home of Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper, located in the refectory of the former Dominican convent. Together, the church and convent form part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for their exceptional artistic and historical significance.
The Sala del Bramante, traditionally associated with this architectural phase, reflects the refined proportions and serene atmosphere typical of Renaissance design. Its intimate scale and balanced geometry create a space that invites both contemplation and close engagement with the surrounding environment.
Today, this remarkable setting — normally not accessible to the general public — offers a rare opportunity to experience music in direct dialogue with history. Within these walls, the clarity of Renaissance architecture and the immediacy of live performance come together to create a uniquely immersive and memorable experience.
