The shakuhachi is a Japanese bamboo flute used by Zen monks as a tool for meditation, where its deep, resonant sound helped to reach a state of connection and inner peace. Each note of the shakuhachi invites one to be present, exploring the relationship between sound, silence, and breath. Today, it remains a symbol of spirituality and calm, captivating with its beauty and simplicity.

It’s my pleasure to share this performance of Chopin’s Nocturne No. 20, a masterpiece originally written for piano, now arranged for transverse flute (flute traverso). This Nocturne is one of Chopin’s most expressive works, and performing it on the flute offers a new and unique perspective, revealing the delicate phrasing and emotional depth of the piece. 🎵

As a flautist, I aim to bring out the nuances of Chopin’s composition, translating its lyrical beauty into the breath and tone of the flute traverso. This performance has been an inspiring challenge, and I hope you’ll find this interpretation both moving and refreshing.
