Asad Ali Qulander
Asad Ali Qulander, a visual artist from Lahore, specializes in oil painting and 3D modeling.
He completed his academic journey with a focus on painting at the National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore in 2024.
I found this image months ago, and it stopped me completely. Something in it her gaze, her stillness refused to leave. It stayed with me quietly, everything felt unfinished. When I finally painted her, I followed my own tones, the muted warmth that carries my way of seeing. Each brushstroke searched for meaning in her silence, confused, tense, mysterious. There’s a silence in her face where time seems to stop, where she is both seen and lost, and you’re left wondering who is watching whom. It’s been a long time since a painting felt this close to how I see. Every color, every stroke, reminds me to stay inside that one suspended moment. I found a reflection of my own stillness the place where light and darkness begin to speak the same language.

Numaish Gah is delighted to present "مُٹّھی بھر ریت | a handful of sand", a group exhibition featuring ten emerging artists: Aakash Jivraj, Anaya Karim, Asad Ali Qulander, Asif Hussain, Imran Gul, Maryam Ahsan, Muqeet Haider, Nabiha Gillani, Yasir Noor, and Yusra Waseem.
Drawing upon memory, longing, identity, intimacy, and resilience, their practices evoke the sense of delicate fragments of life slipping through the hand like sand. These works capture fleeting yet profound human experiences—moments of connection and solitude, the masks we wear and the truths we seek, the echoes of heritage and the burden of dreams.
Through gestures both personal and universal, the exhibition reflects on what it means to hold, release, and remember, offering viewers fragments of humanity that, when gathered, form an ocean of shared existence.
The exhibition opens on October 05, 2025, from 5–8 pm at Numaish Gah. We invite you to join us.

RSVP in bio! Our new group exhibition LOOK opens on May 23rd, from 6-8 pm.
It’s been over 40 years since the rise of Cinéma du Look, a French film movement from the 80’s associated with directors like Leo Carax, Luc Besson, and Jean-Jacques Beineix. The films were known for their grandiose sense of style, their cool, detached characters, and deep sense of ennui and alienation. Focused on spectacle and irreverence, these films were often accused of choosing style over substance. Instead, they revealed the possibility for style to be substance in its own right. Cinéma Du Look went on to permeate the culture, influencing visual culture well beyond film. Decades later, LOOK explores how an aesthetic movement from one time and place can be reimagined in others. The young artists in LOOK explore questions of style, fantasy, and a heightened sense of atmosphere, but also reveal profound emotional truths. These artists speak to the legacy of Cinéma Du Look by seeing style and decadence as a vehicle to explore deeper questions of alienation and pleasure. While rooted in distinct cultural contexts, the exhibition pays tribute to the movement while showcasing an exciting crop of young artists.
