ARTICLE 3 ๐ฎ๐ณ๐
Formation of new States and alteration of areas, boundaries or names of existing States
Article 3 gives Parliament the power to:
โ Form a new State
โ Increase the area of any State
โ Diminish the area of any State
โ Alter the boundaries of any State
โ Change the name of any State
๐น A Bill for this can be introduced in Parliament only with the Presidentโs recommendation.
๐น If the proposal affects any State, the President refers it to the concerned State Legislature for its views.
๐น However, the opinion of the State Legislature is not binding on Parliament.

Article 2 empowers the Parliament of India to admit or establish new States into the Union of India on such terms and conditions as it thinks fit.
