The recent Kashmir economy crisis has seen successive blows to its sectors, starting with tourism after a terror attack in Pahalgam, followed by issues in the restaurant sector, and most recently, massive losses for the apple industry. The apple sector's plight is due to the closure of the vital Jammu-Srinagar highway (NH44) caused by incessant rains and landslides, which has left thousands of perishable apples stranded and damaged, leading to huge losses for farmers and a severe strain on the region's economy.
