*J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN SEIZED 11 VEHICLES; 02FIRs REGISTERED*

June 07: Continuing its sustained crackdown against illegal mining activities, Shopian Police seized eleven vehicles (Tippers, Dumpers & Tractors) involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from different areas of the district.

A special naka was established by Police Station Shopian during which nine vehicles (tippers and dumpers), coming from Pulwama towards Shopian, were intercepted and found carrying mining material without valid royalty documents. The vehicles were seized on spot. In this regard FIR No. 107/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant sections of law. Investigation has been taken up.

In a separate action, a police team from Police Post Berthipora intercepted and seized two tractors involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without the requisite permission. Accordingly, FIR No. 62/2026 has been registered at Police Station Keller under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated.

Shopian Police reiterates its firm commitment towards safeguarding the district's natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. The general public is urged to cooperate with the police by reporting any such unlawful activities. The identity of informants shall be kept strictly confidential.

**Former MLA Wachi/Zainapora Raises Questions Over Utilization of SASCI Funds in Zainapora**

**Shopian, May 31:** Former MLA Wachi, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, has raised serious concerns regarding the utilization of SASCI funds in the Zainapora constituency, questioning the priorities adopted in the ex*****on of development projects.

In a statement issued today, Mir said that nearly ₹10 crore has reportedly been spent on the construction of hospital buildings in areas where patient footfall is minimal and adequate infrastructure already exists. He questioned the necessity of such expenditure at a time when several villages continue to struggle with basic amenities.

“Serious questions need to be asked about the utilization of SASCI funds in Zainapora constituency. What was the need to spend nearly ₹10 crore on hospital buildings where patient footfall is minimal and infrastructure already exists?” Mir said.

He emphasized that many areas in the constituency are facing acute shortages of doctors, medicines, drinking water facilities, and proper road connectivity. According to him, public funds should be directed towards addressing pressing public needs rather than projects of questionable utility.

The former legislator called upon the concerned authorities to explain the rationale behind these projects and disclose whether any proper needs assessment or feasibility study was conducted before allocating substantial funds.

Mir demanded greater transparency and accountability in the utilization of public resources and urged the government to ensure that development funds are spent in a manner that directly benefits the people and addresses their genuine concerns.
