Srinagar, 06 June, 2026: As part of continued efforts to promote environmental awareness and sustainability beyond World Environment Day, Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, inaugurated a Herbal Park at Khimber, Srinagar dedicated to aromatic, medicinal, and herbal plant species and called for nurturing environmentally conscious and innovation-driven future generations.

The initiative, jointly undertaken by the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) and Bilaliya Educational Institute (BEI), witnessed the plantation of a large number of medicinal, aromatic and indigenous herbal species, transforming the campus into a vibrant green space and a living laboratory for environmental education, biodiversity conservation and sustainable learning.

The event drew enthusiastic participation from students, academicians, environmentalists, government officials, civil society members and representatives of various educational and environmental organisations.

Budgam, 05 June, 2026: World Environment Day 2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm and commitment at Green Field School, Huroo Budgam, through a large-scale plantation drive and environmental awareness programme jointly organized by the Social Forestry Range Budgam, Private Schools Association (PSA) and Green Field School Huroo, Budgam.

The event witnessed active participation of students, teachers, officials from the Social Forestry Department, representatives of PSA, NGOs, civil society members and environmental volunteers, all united in spreading the message of environmental conservation and sustainable living.

The chief guest on the occasion was renowned educationist, NISA Joint Secretary and PSA Chief Patron Dr. G.N. Var. The guest of honour was Block Officer, Social Forestry Budgam, Dr. Lateef Ahmad Shagoo. Other distinguished guests included President, Jammu & Kashmir Trade Union Council, Abdul Majeed Parray; PSA Director Media & Communications & District President Budgam Dr. Owais Mattoo; Ghulam Ahmad Kuchay; Bashir Ahmad Dar Secretary, Al-Kareem Institution; Chairman, Green Field School Huroo, Mohammad Maqbool and Principal Ms. Ulfat Abdullah. As part of the celebration, a plantation drive was also conducted within the school premises to promote greenery and strengthen efforts towards environmental sustainability. Students actively participated in awareness sessions highlighting the importance of protecting natural resources, combating pollution and addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

Mrs. Khurshi Ji, Wife of Late Abdul Gafar Nengroo of Chrawani Charar-e-Sharief, Passes Away

It is with profound grief and sorrow that we announce the demise of Mrs. Khurshi, wife of Late Abdul Gafar Nengroo, resident of Chrawani, Charar-e-Sharief, Budgam, who departed for her heavenly abode on 4th June 2026 (Thursday) at 3:00 AM at her residence.

The departed soul was known for her piety, kindness & devotion to family and community. Her passing has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of her loved ones and all those who knew her.
