Shokat Kazmi Stresses Development of Tourism Potential in Pir Panjal Region
Poonch, September 27, 2026:
On the occasion of World Tourism Day, former KAS officer and social activist Shokat Hussain Kazmi has called for focused efforts to develop and promote the vast tourism potential of the Pir Panjal region of Jammu and Kashmir.
Kazmi said the region is blessed with scenic valleys, waterfalls, meadows, forests, historical sites and the picturesque Mughal Road, offering immense opportunities for nature, adventure, heritage and eco-tourism. He stressed the need for better road connectivity, basic tourist infrastructure, accommodation facilities, cleanliness and effective promotion of lesser-known destinations.
He further observed that systematic development of tourism can generate employment opportunities for local youth, strengthen the rural economy and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities to communities across the Pir Panjal region.
Kazmi urged the administration, tourism authorities, local stakeholders and civil society organisations to work together to identify and develop new tourist destinations while ensuring that the region’s natural beauty and ecological balance are preserved.
