Our work made it to the Oscars' Shortlist! 🙌

We are honored that Writing With Fire has been included on the shortlist of 15 films that will be considered for an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature - giving us all an important opportunity to bring more attention to the story of India's only newspaper run by Dalit women. Armed with smartphones, Chief Reporter Meera and her journalists break traditions, be it on the frontlines of India's biggest issues or within the confines of their homes, redefining what it means to be powerful.

After much deliberation our first feature length documentary, "The Social Distance," just dropped on the VICE World News YouTube channel. The film looks at the impact of the virus on Delhi, in the year 2020, a year flanked by citizens' protests on both ends. (link in Bio)

Our film was part of an acquisition of 10 unique films, both feature length documentaries and short doc series under the banner of VICE World News (VWN) Presents. Each film includes a wide range of subject matter from Covid-19, mental health, historical racism, and major environmental issues.

The film follows Ishan Tankha], a photojournalist documenting scores of migrants leaving the capital city, Nandita and Rashid of who have been relentlessly providing cooked meals in North Delhi everyday since the first lockdown, Rani and her crew of ASHA workers braving the frontlines and demanding what's owed to them from their local leaders, and finally Mohd Shamim, the inimitable third-generation grave digger, who despite having seen the first wave of COVID closer than most of us, still finds his job to be one that gives him peace.

“The Puppet is a mortal, existing in the shadows of an eternal throw, playing hide and seek with the aggressor is the purpose of the show…coming in and out of the glow to soothe the conqueror’s flow is how they grow, a blurry blow, a forgotten low.
The Puppet hangs onto memories of friends and foe strung along with fragile feelings of tender trepidations of belonging, navigating these moves worth contributing.
The Puppet learns to swing by thoughts of trauma and torture, correcting a posture of disorder, a horror conjured for a sad departure.
The Puppet swims in the deep end of a hollow pool of sorrow, swallowing pride and prejudice, equally shallow.
