Assam’s longest-serving chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who passed away on Monday at 86 years of age, will be remembered for his vision of steering Assam on to the path of peace and development, leaving behind the bitter decades of unrest and economic stagnation. It was his political wisdom and vision of building a modern Assam that catapulted him to the fame of a stalwart in Indian politics.

When Sirimavo Bandaranaike became the world’s first woman prime minister of what was then Ceylon in 1960, it caused international concern. How could a woman cope with such a demanding task?

Sirimavo is credited with changing perceptions of female leadership, and for implementing democratic socialist policies that helped close the gap in Sri Lanka’s economic classes.

She is credited for reforming the British colony of Ceylon into an independent state and to move away from its colonial past.

She was also the first non-hereditary female head of government in world history. Although her tenure was marked by various problems, some achievements include the creation of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and the implementation of socialist policies aimed at curbing inequality.

The Nightingale of India, Sarojini Naidu was a poet, a politician and an activist. She was the first Indian woman to be President of the Indian National Congress.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee passed away on Monday following a continuous decline in his health after a lung infection resulted in septic shock. Mukherjee underwent a brain surgery for the removal of a clot on August 10 at Delhi's R & R army Hospital. He was also diagnosed with covid infection on the same day. He was 84. In his political career spanning over five decades, held charge of top ministries including finance, defence and external affairs. A lifelong Congressman, Mukherjee enjoyed great goodwill among his political adversaries. He is often referred to as the prime minister India never had.

The 58th convocation of IIT Bombay was organized and concluded today in "a virtual reality mode" due to the safety measures during the ongoing pandemic.

Through this virtual reality based e-convocation, personalised avatars of each student were awarded their degree/medals from the personalised avatar of the Director of the institute

The students not only received their degrees in personalised avatars .They also got an opportunity to hang out in the hostels, canteen and around the campus and catch up with friends and teachers in VR simulations .

It allowed going out students a last time to stroll down the road and explore the campus 'virtually' one more time.
