Calcutta Rescue (CR) is a non – governmental organization (NGO) operating in Kolkata and rural parts of West Bengal for over three decades.
Calcutta Rescue provides free medical care and education to Calcutta and West Bengal's poor, destitute and socially disadvantaged - regardless of s*x, age, caste, skin colour or religion. Almost 4 million people in Kolkata live on the streets and slums. Calcutta Rescue has been supporting free medical care, education and
development to the poorest and most disadvantaged people of Kolkata and rural West Bengal irrespective of gender, age, caste, or religion. Calcutta Rescue operates three outpatient clinics at Talapark, Chitpur and Sealdah offering health care to the poorest of the poor in Kolkata. It also runs Rural and Urban Tuberculosis centers operating under WHO guidelines, Medical Outreach Programs, HIV / AIDS clinic and
Programmes for adults and children with disabilities providing access to medical, therapeutic and educational opportunities. Calcutta Rescue operates two schools at Girish Park and Talapark for underprivileged students. It also provides Nutrition and Health Care
Programmes, Boarding School facilities, Vocational Training Programme and Computer Training. Calcutta Rescue also offers various developmental programmes like a Fair Trade Handicraft Workshop providing employment and means
of sustenance to ex- patients, widows and school dropouts and two Weaving Centres in South 24 Parganas training local youths to produce
bandages for the clinics, materials for the handicrafts project and clothing for our beneficiaries. Calcutta Rescue runs Safe Drinking and Arsenic Free Water Programme in the rural Bengal. Calcutta Rescue has installed six filtration units
providing safe drinking water to the people of rural Malda, the worst affected district of West Bengal
Calcutta Rescue was adjudged the joint winner of the Best NGO (Middle Sized) in 2009, by the ‘Resource Alliance & Rockfeller Foundation’
