Koi Fish series by Suhasini Munshi.

Description-
A relaxing water color painting of koi fishes in a pond of waterlilies. The bright colors of the fishes stand out against the murky shades of the pond bed.
Technique-
The main agenda is to imitate the clear water and to bring a sense of depth in the two dimensional painting. The rocks are done in wet-in-wet to bring out the several hues and the soft shadows. The main trick was to create a depth from the vertical perspective, and to show the three layers- the floating lily pads, the fishes and the bottom bed rock. The shadows of the fishes and leaves on the rocks, done in wet-in-wet, help in achieving that sense of depth. There are no ripples on the water surface, only bubbles, which helps to create an illusion of water and fishes underneath.
Texture is a key element for the rocks. To bring out texture, 'scrumbling' or spontaneous movement of a dry brush was done over the rocks and some of the lily pads.
