Sreedevi came all the way to St. Louis to spend a week learning with me in person. Though she resumed her classes with me online almost a year ago, having her here in my studio brought back so many memories. I still remember the little six-year old girl who first began her dance journey with me. After a long break in between, it makes me so happy to see her return to dance with such dedication and to see how beautifully she is progressing.
As she gets ready to return home tomorrow, I’m sharing this little candid moment of us dancing together in my studio. Wishing you a beautiful journey ahead, Shree, may Mohiniyattam always remain a joyful and meaningful part of your life ❤️

With immense joy and gratitude, I share the news that my mother, Guru Sreedevi Rajan, has been conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar for the year 2024 announced by the Akademi in 2026.
Her journey with Mohiniyattam began not with a pursuit of recognition, but with an unwavering love for the art form. From her early years she dedicated her life to nurturing, preserving, and sharing this dance tradition with sincerity, commitment and grace.
For decades, she worked quietly and tirelessly, placing the welfare and growth of Mohiniyattam above personal acclaim. Recognition was never her goal; her focus remained steadfastly on the art, her students, and the vision she inherited from her Gurus.
Many who have witnessed her lifelong contribution may feel that this honour should have come much earlier. Yet awards have their own time, and it is heartening to see her immense contributions acknowledged at the national level.
To me, she has always been a true custodian of this tradition, humble in spirit, uncompromising in her dedication, and deeply committed to the future of Mohiniyattam.
A well-deserved honour to a remarkable Guru!

Just a quiet moment from a few minutes ago that made me pause.
Two hot air balloons drifting above our house.. a rare sight here and an unexpected delight.
For a brief moment, the child in me emerged, simply watching, smiling, and reaching for my phone to capture a few photos and videos.. some even taken through the window.
Sometimes the simplest moments bring the greatest joy.
