Part of the esteemed Krishnendu Ayurveda Hospital, the 21,000 sq. ft. Nirava Ayurveda Holistic Centre by Stapati unfolds as a contemplative retreat where healing is shaped by both landscape and craft. Conceived as two interdependent volumesβa twelve-key villa block and a curvilinear spa wingβthe masterplan is carefully threaded around mature trees, allowing the siteβs natural character to guide spatial form and movement.
Materiality anchors the project in regional memory. Locally sourced laterite, warm timber, and handcrafted detailing are composed with clean, contemporary lines to achieve a refined dialogue between Keralaβs vernacular language and modern restraint. Within the villas, full-height sliders dissolve thresholds between interior and garden, inviting light and breeze into rooms defined by earth-toned textures, teak joinery, and louvered shutters. Woven cane seating, custom upholstery, exposed concrete ceilings, and kadappa flooring establish a tactile yet minimal palette, gently softened by natural fiber rugs.

Step inside The Palagiri House in Kochi, a 9,000 sq. ft. tropical residence built on a 619 sq.m urban plot in Kaloor. Rising out of a neighborhood defined by narrow lanes and closely packed houses, this four-bedroom home shows how architecture can transform a tight urban site into a spacious, light-filled retreat. Completed in just 18 months, the house blends tropical design principles with modern family living.
Instead of occupying the entire ground, the architects lifted the home above a parking levelβfreeing up nearly 40% of the land at the front. This rare luxury in a dense city setting allowed the residence to breathe, creating openness and visibility while maintaining privacy. Inside, the home unfolds as a series of layered spaces: a gentle ramp and sit-out lead into a soaring double-height drawing room, gradually transitioning upward into family areas, private bedrooms, and a rooftop pavilion.

The project takes shape from the homeownersβ desire for a simple, grounded life rooted in tradition, despite their fast-paced careers as software engineers. They envisioned a home that felt familiar and calm rather than formal or ostentatiousβone that could support slow living while accommodating long work-from-home hours. This balance between contemporary requirements and inherited values became the foundation of the design, with memories of the clientsβ ancestral home strongly influencing both spatial planning and material choices. The idea of a central courtyard emerged early on as the emotional core of the house.
A key design challenge lay in integrating antique wooden pillars salvaged from the clientsβ ancestral home. Over 130 years old, these columns had to be carefully adapted to suit the height and structure of a new Mangalore-tile roof without compromising their character. To extend their presence beyond the courtyard, portions of the original pillars were thoughtfully reused within the house, accentuating the entryway and carrying forward a narrative of memory and continuity. The material palette was intentionally restrained, relying on natural finishes that age gracefully.

Tea & Tranquility is a fully serviced five-bedroom pool villa set amid rolling tea gardens, where nature and stillness exist in harmony. The villa unfolds through curated indoor and outdoor spaces with intimate corners, open terraces for conversation, and settings that encourage guests to slow down, breathe, and truly arrive. Every space is designed to dissolve the boundary between shelter and landscape, allowing time to soften.
Building and renovating in a remote mountain setting demanded patience, perseverance, and respect for place, but the result was a retreat rooted in beauty and calm. Conceived as a dialogue between architecture and landscape, the design allows the land to lead every decision. This is most evident in the organic shaped infinity pool, which gently curves around existing trees, preserving every mature tree while visually merging water, sky, and tea estates into a single horizon.
The architecture is anchored by locally sourced stone, materials, and local craftsmanship that give the villa a timeless character. Spatial planning encourages an easy flow between in and out, balancing openness & privacy. Hospitality here is defined with farm-fresh breakfasts, misty walks through tea trails, quiet lakeside moments, and evenings watching the hills. Tea & Tranquility offers an experience by becoming not just a place to stay, but a place to pause, breathe, and simply be.

This residence, located near Kodaikanal Lake, is thoughtfully nestled within the lush, wooded landscape of the hill town. A key design decision was to preserve an existing eucalyptus tree, which became central to the layout and guided the placement of spaces. The house is designed to sit gently on the natural contours, using level changes, terraces, and platforms to blend with the terrain instead of altering it. Stone walls and paved pathways root the home in its setting, providing a tactile contrast to the white plastered surfaces while maintaining an earthy and grounded feel.
The spatial planning follows a clear hierarchy that transitions smoothly from social to private areas. The public zonesβliving, dining, and family spaces are positioned toward the front and open to terraces and lawns, while the bedrooms and a serene tatami mat room are placed deeper inside for privacy. The tatami room serves as a meditative retreat, defined by simplicity and minimal furnishings. Circulation is designed through corridors that alternate between enclosed and open moments, offering framed outdoor views and creating a rhythmic movement through the house.

This boutique resort is set on the edge of a vibrant valley, where the architecture is shaped b&y the natural contours of the land. The design respects the topography and native systems, preserving the spirit of the place rather than imposing on it. Buildings follow the slope, creating multiple levels that reveal spaces gradually: from the courtyard, through stone walls and halls, into gardens, out onto the pool deck, and finally toward the sweeping valley views. The sequence of framed and sometimes hidden vistas brings expectation, surprise, and delight into the journey.
At the heart of the resort is an infinity pool that forms a plateau, becoming a new horizon from which the valley can be admired. Around it, lounges, decks, shaded pavilions, steps, platforms, and gardens enrich the experience. Setting the levels for the buildings and the pool is crucial, ensuring that each space relates harmoniously with the site and offers the intended visual and spatial experience. The result is a rich network of interconnected outdoor and semi-outdoor spaces that feel both fluid and memorable.

KAI unfolds as a tactile exploration of form, light, and materiality, drawing inspiration from Indian palaces while translating their grandeur into a contemporary, youthful setting. Layered spaces balance openness and intimacy through rich maroon tones, accents of blue, and soft beige, with textural contrasts ranging from polished to raw finishes guiding the spatial rhythm.
The project presented significant logistical and technical challenges due to its location on the 13th floor of an existing office building, with no dedicated service lift. This required meticulous reverse planning, with materials pre-processed at factories to fit lift dimensions, alongside close coordination among multiple artists and vendors due to the high level of customisation involved. Technically, the use of pixel LED lights introduced for the first time in the studioβs work, demanded precise programming and voltage management to prevent flickering or colour inconsistencies, addressed through a carefully designed backend system ensuring complete stability.

This project emerged from the intent to rejuvenate a 30-year-old home and make it suitable for two generations living together. The original structure held strong spatial potentialβdouble-height volumes, access to natural light, and opportunities for landscape connectionβbut these qualities were underused. The design reinterpreted these existing strengths by opening up the living and dining areas, improving transparency, and creating a contemporary yet warm environment while retaining the homeβs essential character.
Renovating an occupied house posed significant challenges. Large portions of the structure had to be demolished and reorganized to achieve more open and functional public spaces. Key service zones like the kitchen and pantry required careful redesign. Since the family continued living on-site, construction had to proceed in carefully planned phases, completing one area at a time to ensure safety and minimize disruption. Maintaining coherence across this staggered process became one of the projectβs most demanding aspects.
