Shri Ram Vichar Netam, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries & Animal Husbandry, Government of Chhattisgarh, released the Hindi publication “𝐆𝐈𝐅𝐓 – 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬” during the Chintan Shivir on “Aquaculture of GIFT (Tilapia)” jointly organised by MPEDA and the Department of Fisheries, Government of India, at Raipur on 21 May 2026.

The publication showcases the growth potential of GIFT Tilapia in strengthening rural livelihoods and advancing sustainable fisheries development. The event also featured a live demonstration of value-added Tilapia products, highlighting strong opportunities for processing and market expansion.

MPEDA Regional Division Bhubaneswar organised the State-Level Skill Olympiad on Seafood Value Addition on 26 May 2026 at Alashore Marine Exports Pvt. Ltd., Balasore, Odisha.

Fifteen participants shortlisted from regional hands-on training programmes showcased their expertise in preparing innovative, value-added seafood products, including Nobashi Shrimp, Butterfly Shrimp, Breaded Squid Rings, Fish Fillets, and more. The event highlighted skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities in the seafood processing sector, with top performers receiving certificates and cash prizes.

Strengthening trade intelligence through technology-enabled insights and data-driven decision-making. The RFP for Enablement of AI on the Trade Intelligence & Analytics Portal has been published on the GeM Portal, supporting efforts towards smarter analytics and enhanced trade facilitation.

Ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance is critical for global market access. MPEDA Quality Control Laboratory, Nellore, organised an intensive three-day hands-on training program on advanced ELISA screening techniques for detecting banned antibiotic residues (including Chloramphenicol and Nitrofuran Metabolites) in farmed shrimp and fish from 19th to 21st May 2026.

Key Highlights:
• Kick-off: Opened on May 19, 2026, with a strategic introductory address by Shri. Mahesh G. Deputy Director (Lab).
• Technical Guidance: Led by an expert faculty panel featuring Smt. K. Aruna, TO, Shri. Ch. Surendra Babu, TO, Smt. J. Hymavathi, JTO, Shri. Siva Prasad K., JTO and Dr. Md. Khamar Jahan, JTO.
• Industry Impact: Eight lab technologists from prominent seafood exporting companies successfully participated.

By equipping labs and exporters with rapid, reliable screening capabilities, we continue to safeguard the integrity of our aquaculture supply chain.

The India–EU Free Trade Agreement is expected to enhance market opportunities for Indian businesses through preferential tariff access, supporting exports and strengthening India’s global trade presence.
