The proposed Katra–Vaishno Devi ropeway has triggered a huge clash between government development plans and local community concerns. While authorities say the SMVD ropeway project will improve pilgrim movement, travel safety, tourism growth, and yatra management, locals in Katra, Banganga, Ardhkuwari, and Bhawan fear loss of livelihood, impact on traditional pilgrimage routes, and environmental damage in the Trikuta Hills.
This has turned into one of the biggest Jammu & Kashmir infrastructure controversies.
