𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙡𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙙𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙧'𝙨 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚.

In a village called 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗶 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁 — and in thousands of villages just like it — a man rides out before sunrise on a bicycle, steel canisters tied to the back, delivering milk to households still half-asleep. He has done this for years. He will do it tomorrow. Most people who open their doors to him have never asked his name.

𝙃𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙧𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙖.

His name is 𝗞𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗷𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵 . His daughter is 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗵𝗷𝗼𝘁 𝗞𝗮𝘂𝗿.

This year, while her father was finishing his pre-dawn round, Prabhjot was inside a classroom at Akal Academy Manoli Surat — preparing for the kind of exam her father has never sat in his life.

𝙎𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨 10 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 80% .

You will not read about her in the newspaper. There is no rank to celebrate, no record to break. What there is, is this: 𝙖 𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙠𝙢𝙖𝙣'𝙨 𝙙𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙧, 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙞𝙧𝙘𝙪𝙢𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 , 𝙙𝙞𝙙.

𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙚. 𝙌𝙪𝙞𝙚𝙩, 𝙪𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙢𝙚𝙙, 𝙖𝙡𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚. 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙬𝙖𝙮.

Her classroom existed because of one person.

𝗠𝗿. 𝗚𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗸𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵 chose to sponsor Prabhjot's education through the Educate to Save initiative.

The logic of poverty is brutal and simple: another pair of working hands beats another mouth to feed. It's how child labour begins — not with cruelty, but with a family doing the arithmetic of survival. And a girl is almost always the first number cut.

This year, that arithmetic broke.

Across our academies, 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟱𝟬 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆-𝘄𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗿𝘀 cleared their board exams — and the overwhelming majority were 𝗱𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.

Not just passed. 𝗧𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝟵𝟬%. Two — daughters of labourers — touched 𝟵𝟳.𝟲%.

Read that again. The girls who were supposed to be the first to leave the classroom finished at the very top of it.

This is what 𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘳 actually looks like — a labourer's daughter walking toward college instead of a worksite, carrying an income her family has never known. When she changes, the next generation in her home is born into different choices.

And this isn't a one-year story. Of the 𝟵,𝟬𝟬𝟬+ children on our rolls, 𝟮,𝟮𝟲𝟭 come from labouring families — educated through Educate to Save completely free or on aid. This year alone, 𝟵𝟲𝟯 more are joining.

In rural Punjab, the daughters of labourers do not usually study Commerce. The path to business, finance, and accounting has, for generations, belonged to families with capital — families who already understood balance sheets because they had something to balance.

Veerpal's family had none of that.

Her father, Jeon Singh, works as a labourer in a village called Bhai Desa. No salary. No business. No inherited understanding of markets or money beyond the daily arithmetic of whether tomorrow will bring work.

He could not have taught his daughter Commerce.

She studied it anyway.

This year, Veerpal sat her Class 12 board exams in the Commerce stream.

She scored 𝟗𝟑.𝟒% .

And then she did something quieter and harder: she finished 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥.

A labourer's daughter, at the top of the very stream that for generations was meant for someone else.

That number, and that position, are not the headline of this story.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐭—𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭.

She did not study Commerce because her father could explain it. She studied it because someone, somewhere, made sure her education was not the first thing her family had to give up.

At Akal Academy Bhai Desa, supported through the Educate to Save initiative, Veerpal walked into a classroom that didn't ask what her family could afford. She did the rest.

That classroom stayed open because of one person.

𝐌𝐫. 𝐆𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐣, from the UK, chose to sponsor Veerpal's education through Educate to Save.

He paid for a desk, a teacher, a year — and made the result possible. What Veerpal did with that opportunity — 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒆, 𝑪𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒔 12, 93.4%, 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎 — is entirely hers.

But a labourer's daughter does not become a top Commerce student by accident. Someone keeps the door open. She walks through it. The country gains one more young woman who understands business in places where business has rarely belonged to her family.

Tonight, somewhere in rural India, the daughter of a labourer is sitting with a textbook in a subject her parents have never studied — Commerce, Science, Mathematics, English — quietly hoping she will be allowed to keep going.

Most donor stories begin with a homecoming — a Punjabi NRI giving back to the soil they came from. This one doesn't. 𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐡 was born in Iran, moved to the United Kingdom in the late 1960s, and built a business there. His direct connection to India has always been quiet — a few family ties in Delhi and Punjab. Nothing more.

He could have lived an entire life without ever sponsoring a single Indian child.

Instead, he chose seven.

It began when he heard the words of 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐛𝐚 𝐈𝐪𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐡 𝐉𝐢— 𝐭𝐡𝐞 *𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫* whose vision has placed thousands of rural children inside classrooms they could never otherwise have entered. Baba Ji's mission was not charity. It was upliftment: the conviction that an education rooted in values is the only true way to change a child's life.

Bagirath Singh believed it.

He travelled to Baru Sahib, walked the campus, and saw the work in person. When he returned to London, he did not sponsor one child.

In his own words: "I wanted to support as many children as I could."

In a village called 𝙋𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝘽𝙝𝙖𝙞 𝙆𝙚, 𝘼𝙫𝙩𝙖𝙧 𝙎𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙝 works as a labourer. No fixed salary. No guarantee of work tomorrow. Just a willingness to show up each day and do whatever work is available.

In homes like his, 𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙮 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙡𝙪𝙭𝙪𝙧𝙮.

School fees. Books. Uniforms. The next academic year.
Everything depends on whether there is enough money left after everything else.

For many families, 𝙖 𝙙𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙧'𝙨 𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙚𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙮.𝘞𝘦'𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳.

𝘞𝘦'𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘥.

𝙏𝙤𝙤 𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙣, 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮.

Harmanpreet's parents wanted a different ending. They just could not afford to guarantee it.

And somewhere, thousands of miles away, that hope found a listener.

That decision helped keep a classroom door open at Akal Academy Phaphre Bhai Ke.

Her father, 𝗞𝘂𝗹𝗯𝗶𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵, is a tailor in Dhotian. His family never measured success in marks. They measured it in stitches that held, in customers who returned, in a day's wages that stretched far enough to reach the next day.

In families like his, the question was rarely how well will the daughter study. More often, it was:

𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹?

For too many girls in her circumstance, the answer is still no.

Avinoor's parents wanted something different for her. They didn't have the means to give it. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵.

And somewhere, on the other side of the world, that quiet wanting was heard.

𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵, 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞, chose to sponsor Avinoor's education through the Educate to Save initiative. He had never met her family — but he understood that in some village in Punjab, a tailor and his wife were holding on to a hope they could not afford to fulfil.

His decision put Avinoor inside a classroom at 𝗔𝗸𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗗𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻, & kept her there.

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻, 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱.

This year, Avinoor sat her Class 10 boards and passed with 𝟴𝟬%.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲.

The headline is that in a circumstance where, statistically, a girl like Avinoor often does not finish school —

𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱.

That is what 𝗘𝗧𝗦 is.

Tonight, somewhere in rural India, the daughter of a tailor, a labourer, or a small farmer is doing her homework by lamp-light.

Her parents have already given her everything they have —

𝘈 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘬. 𝘈 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲.

But this year, in two homes that have no connection to each other, the same remarkable thing happened.

At 𝗔𝗸𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗞𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗮 & 𝗔𝗸𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗶 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁, both children walked into classrooms supported through the 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 initiative.

No questions about what their families could afford. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁.

And those doors stayed open because of two people.

She topped the district in Class X. Most would have celebrated and settled. She packed her bags and chased something bigger.

Jashandeep Kaur’s father sells goods door-to-door across villages. Not from a shop. Not from a showroom. On foot. Village after village. Day after day.

His daughter just ranked 4th in India.

When Jashandeep topped Sirsa district in Class X at Akal Academy Ellenabad, many expected her to stay close to home.

She didn’t.

She wanted to become a doctor. So she enrolled at Akal Academy Reeth Kheri under the Educate To Save initiative and quietly began preparing for NEET alongside her board exams.

Two battles. One girl. No shortcuts.

Her mother managed the home. Her father walked miles in the heat to earn a living. Neither could teach her organic chemistry or human anatomy.

But they gave her something no coaching institute ever could — they never once told their daughter to dream smaller.
