INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY
Since 2011 , this day is being observed by United Nations on 23rd June , in order to draw attention to the experiences of widows and provide them the support they need. This day marks for the recognition of the rights of widows . It is concerned with addressing the social stigmas they face and exclusion from the society they experience . They should be brought to participate in peace building process and ensure their contribution to the society .
Generally they are being denied from the inherent rights and have less access to the pensions of their deceased spouse and also in these prevailing lockdown conditions , they don’t have access to healthcare facilities .
So, this day is to mark that there is urgent need to give attention to such issues and actions should be taken to safeguard their rights .

*The theme of this year is “ Invisible women, invisible problems”.*
