Just a small context about the latest E85 release.

E85 is nothing but an 85% ethanol mixture with petrol. So far, we have all been using E20 with BS6.2 emission norms. But the downside is that E20 petrol is not suitable for BS4 or below vehicles, i.e. vehicles purchased before April 2023. The same goes for E85 now. Unless and until flex fuel vehicles are introduced (which can support up to E100), don't buy any new vehicles, pause your buying. If you still need a new vehicle, Honda launched flex fuel based bikes long ago. Now, Maruti Suzuki has started launching flex fuel cars, starting with the Wagon-R. We have no choice but to settle for EV cars/bikes for now. Diesel cars are not suitable for everyone due to their own DPF issues.

Now coming to the echa side of this corrupted BJPee government. Producing ethanol is generally more expensive per unit of usable energy than producing petrol from crude oil, but still, why are they pushing ethanol blends? To the public, it may look like they are reducing crude oil imports and dependency. But the actual reason is Nitin Gadkari (Road & Transport Minister), whose son owns CIAN Agro Industries & Infrastructure Ltd. which is a sugarcane and corn based industry, and ethanol is a byproduct of sugarcane and corn. The price may look attractive at 82rs/ltr, but the actual cost should be around 65rs/ltr considering the production cost. Still, they wanted to loot us with an extra 15 to 20rs.

Now that E85 has been launched in Delhi, it will soon come to the South as well. Even in E20 vehicles, E85 is not a suitable fuel because it can lead to Difficult starting, Poor performance, Lean air-fuel mixture, Damage to fuel lines, seals, injectors or other fuel system components over time and possible warranty issues. Brace yourselves, tough times are ahead for our vehicles!
