Ethiopian National Project: A Week In Review
Happy Sigd to All!
ENP is so excited to start a brand new school year! In preparation of every school year we gather, review, learn and strategize so each year can be better than the last 🤓📚📝. Have a happy 2022-23 school year!
ENP welcomes back Smadar from the magical Camp Kimama Galim 😎🏄‍♀️🚣‍♀️ and thanks the heroes of the amazing Camp Kimama who made it possible! A select few of ENP's "Bridges" spoken English program participants top off a year of hard work with summer camp experiences in the US, Canada and Israel, an unforgettable experience for all! Know a summer camp that wants to play a part? Contact ENP today!
ENP is overjoyed and honored to be a beneficiary of The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee! Their generous gift will enable more Ethiopian-Israeli children to participate in ENP's flagship School Performance and Community Empowerment program in the 2022-23 school year! Together we will achieve extraordinary outcomes 🤓📚!
ENP is thrilled to welcome home Yuval from Emma Kaufmann Camp in West Virginia where she represented the Ethiopian National Project with pride 🥳😎🌞 ENP thanks the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, their supporters and special donors, and those who generously support the spoken English Bridges program and make it possible for ENP campers like Yuval to have the experience of a lifetime.
ENP works to empower members of the Ethiopian Israeli community to become leaders and give a voice to their community. ENP is proud to say that the "Insight" Leadership Human Rights Program has completed the first stage and is excited to see what these graduates will accomplish! This program was generously sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Germany. ENP was excited to host a representative of the embassy who experienced firsthand why this program is so critical.
When school is out for summer vacation, ENP SPACE participants are gearing up for exams in summer study marathons 😎 ENP is so proud of their dedication and wishes them the best of luck! 🥳📚📝🎒
ENP is proud to deliver hand-knitted scarves to 12th grade Ethiopian-Israeli SPACE participants who will be joining the IDF next year. A huge thanks to the Dorot Bat Gurion Hadassah Chapter of Palm Beach and the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County for helping to ease the transition for the new recruits 😀🧣🧶🧵🎩
ENP is grateful to all the amazing interns who choose to volunteer their time, talents and efforts to contribute to ENP and the Ethiopian-Israeli community! From Virginia to Texas, from California to Australia, our interns are the coolest in the whole wide world. 😎👏
The end of a school year brings with it a review of ENP's hard work and shines a light on all the achievements as well as best practices. ENP continues to evolve its SPACE program to create the best outcome that will benefit the Ethiopian-Israeli community as a whole. The hallowed halls of the municipality of Beersheva is a perfect venue to relay ENP's stellar outcomes with this extraordinary partner.
The Ethiopian National Project celebrated the completion of the third year of Project Ti'ud. Participants convened in
Jerusalem to share their moving and powerful year-long experience.
ENP SPACE students from Hadera, Tirat HaCarmel, Afula, Carmiel and Kiryat Yam went on an educational tour of Haifa University 🤓 The students were able to hear about endless possibilities and areas of study, understand the requirements to be accepted and experience the different faculties 📚📝 In addition, SPACE participants heard a lecture from a law student who spoke to them about privacy in the digital age, Facebook, Instagram, purchasing online and other apps on their phones. They finished the day with a visit to the Hecht Museum! ENP ensures that SPACE is not only scholastic assistance, but that it enriches the young minds, exposes them to infinite possibilities and gives them a vision for their future.
On the 26th of June the Ethiopian National Project hosted its Third Annual Sudilovsky Busel Community Advocacy and Leadership Conference, in Jerusalem. After completing a virtual scavenger hunt through , students attended an award ceremony in which several awards given out to some of the young scholars. The students that received these awards were also given educational prizes. Thank you to the and its donors who made the event possible.

ENP's "Safe Together" initiative forges connections, cooperation and increased understanding between Ethiopian-Israeli youth, their parents and community and the Israel Police. For the later stages of the program, Safe Together is focusing on executing the workshops for Ethiopian-Israeli youth, staff training, building a trusting relationship with the Israel Police Force and understanding the historical significance of having a solid positive partnership between the Ethiopian-Israeli community and the Israel Police Force.
Understanding the past and perspectives through dialogue plays a crucial role in achieving a stronger bond in conflict-affected communities. The Ethiopian National Project chose to implement this program to take meaningful strides towards a better reality.

ENP convened teens from all over Israel to celebrate the culmination of the 2022-23 Ti'ud Program in Jerusalem. ENP's "Ti'ud" is an acronym for the Documentation of Ethiopian Jewry and their Journey to the Land of Israel., where teens themselves acquire knowledge and skills that enable them then to document stories of Ethiopian Jewish family members or leaders who made the journey to Israel. Conference participants enjoyed a wide range of activities and certificates were presented to those who excelled. ENP also presented certificates of thanks to the parents who were greatly involved in their child's transformation. This extraordinary program is made possible thanks to the generous support of Rosalee and Richard Davison and the Ben and Zelda Cohen Foundation.

ENP's new initiative "Safe Together" forges connections, cooperation and increased understanding between Ethiopian-Israeli youth, their parents and community and the Israel Police. A pilot initiative launched in four localities, Safe Together engages Ethiopian-Israeli youth, parents, police and community leadership to promote greater understanding and empathy and prevent future civil unrest.
Activities within the scope of this project includes executing workshops that address the key elements that will help forge bonds while building cadres of youth, local police, national law enforcement leaders, Ethiopian-Israeli leaders, municipal council members and general community members who interact with “the other” so as to prevent escalation of tensions, over-policing, prejudicial attitudes and more.
This pilot initiative is supported by Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa) Zivik Funding Programme with funds from Auswärtiges Amt .

As part of ENP's Project Ti'ud which aims to share the remarkable story of the Ethiopian Jewish journey to Israel, over 50 ENP students visited the Ethiopian Experience Center in Beit She'an, Israel this week. Led by Ethiopian-Israeli community leader, Chava, the students learned about their Ethiopian history by hearing Chava's journey to Israel, learning about ancient Ethiopian Jewish traditions, and enjoying a beautiful traditional Ethiopian meal. The students were in awe as they learned about their strong-willed and resilient community.

In 2023, Black History Month's theme is 'Black Resistance', recognizing the ways in which Black people have resisted oppression, discrimination, and prejudice throughout history.

Ethiopia and Ethiopian Jews have much to be proud of: never colonized, Ethiopia is Africa's oldest independent country and its second largest in terms of population. Ethiopian Jews grasped the opportunity to return to Jerusalem and today are taking steps to reach the highest echelons of Israeli society. ENP is playing a leading role in working to empower and uplift the Ethiopian-Israeli community. This month, we will celebrate Ethiopian-Israelis and all we do, together, to embrace the opportunity.
