We approached the municipality in cooperation with the Jerusalem Institute of Justice מכון ירושלים לצדק, on behalf of two churches in the Old City that are undergoing renovations. The churches would like to receive financial support, however it became clear to them that they do not meet the threshold conditions for submitting requests to the municipality. Deputy Director of Hiddush - for Religious Freedom & Equality, attorney Sagi Agmon, says that "this discrimination is anchored in guidelines , some of which the municipality does not disclose and some of which were formulated intentionally in a way that excludes those whom the municipality does not wish to support."
Hiddush is currently threatening to take the matter to court.

The mission of the Jerusalem Institute of Justice is to understand the burdens of humanity and advocate on behalf of people in need. We share our common heart for justice, expose injustice, and speak out for those whose voices have been silenced. We work with the legal system, community partners, and people like you to promote human rights, defend democracy, and improve the overall quality of life in Israel and the Middle East.

Shabbat shalom, friends!

Today is the International Day of Peace, commemorating the UN Charter's call for peace and reaffirming our commitment to building a more peaceful world. As we mark this day, we also remember the millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, including the millions of Ukrainian refugees who have been displaced by Russia's invasion.
The Jerusalem Institute of Justice is providing critical assistance to Israel's Ukrainian refugees. The organization provides legal aid, counseling, and other services to help refugees navigate the complex asylum process and rebuild their lives.
On this International Day of Peace, we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and all those who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict.
You can help Ukrainian refugees by donating to JIJ. Together, we can make a difference.

The Palestinian report on its adherence to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights omitted several human rights violations taking place under the Palestinian authorities. Today we are bringing light to the use of human shields by Palestinian armed groups such as Hamas, Fatah, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Keep tuned to learn more about other omissions of the Palestinian report, such as child soldiering and unlawful imprisonment.

The Jerusalem Institute of Justice works in protecting human rights in Israel and the Middle East. Our team will keep monitoring and bringing light to the human rights abuses perpetrated by the Palestinian Authority and will continue to fight for human rights.

In a recent move, UNESCO has recognized certain sites as exclusively tied to Palestinians, sparking a discussion on historical and cultural claims. This echoes prior instances, like the 2017 designation of Hebron as a World Heritage Site in "Palestine," overlooking Israel's historical connection to the region.
Did you know that within the UN, there exists a crucial entity known as the Security Council?
Did you know that this council holds the exclusive authority to make decisions that are legally binding?
Did you know that among its 5 permanent members, the US is included?

We are wishing everyone a Shana Tova u'Metuka! May the year be filled with joy, blessings, and sweet things. May we find new beginnings, cherish moments with loved ones, and create beautiful memories. Happy New Year!

The Middle East is a region with a long and complex history of democracy. Some countries in the region, such as Israel and Turkey, have relatively solid democratic institutions. However, other countries, such as Syria and Iran, are ruled by authoritarian regimes.
The Jerusalem Institute of Justice is a legal and research organization dedicated to cultivating and defending the rule of law, human rights, freedom of conscience, and democracy in Israel and the Middle East. JIJ's work has significantly impacted the promotion of democracy in the Middle East. The organization has won numerous awards, including the Gruber Prize for Justice and the International Bar Association's Human Rights Award.

At the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict lies a pivotal issue: the plight of refugees and the right of return. Individually and collectively, this challenge stands as a primary barrier in what is widely acknowledged as the world's most intricate conflict. It stems from two distinct perspectives and historical patterns of movement.
At the Jerusalem Institute of Justice, we passionately unveil hidden injustices and advocate for human rights. Check out our webinar, where we explore the positions of both sides, delving into the socio-psychological obstacles that have hindered the pursuit of a peaceful solution.

In the 138th Session, the Palestinian report on its adherence to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights omitted several human rights violations taking place under the Palestinian authorities.
The Jerusalem Institute of Justice presented written submissions to the Human Rights Committee, providing information on those human rights abuses. Today we are bringing light to the PA financial assistance and promotion of terrorism through the policy of "Pay for Slay". Keep tuned to learn more about other omissions of the Palestinian report, such as human shields, child soldiering, and unlawful imprisonment.

Embrace the beauty of Shabbat and cherish the moments with loved ones. Shabbat Shalom, dear friends!

Freedom of religion or belief, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to peaceful assembly, and the right to freedom of association are all interdependent and mutually reinforcing. Upholding these rights is essential to the fight against all forms of intolerance and discrimination based on religion or belief.
Because of that, The General Assembly designated 22 August as International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief.
At the Jerusalem Institute of Justice, we fight against injustice and discrimination. We believe in common human rights and provide free legal aid to clients who need the protection of their rights.

August 19 is World Humanitarian Day. On this day, we honor the brave men and women who risk their lives to save others. Humanitarians work tirelessly to provide food, water, shelter, and medical care to people affected by conflict, disaster, and other crises. They stand shoulder to shoulder with the communities they serve, bringing hope and rebuilding lives.
At JIJ, we are proud to support the work of humanitarians worldwide. In recent years, we have worked closely with Holocaust survivors groups, providing them emotional support, financial assistance, and other resources. We have also celebrated Jewish holidays with them, providing a sense of community and belonging.
We believe that it is our moral obligation to help those in need. We are committed to continuing our work with humanitarian organizations and supporting those they serve.
Take part and donate to support our cause (at our website by link in the bio).

Carolina Discusses Israeli Law, the EU, UN, and ICC
Carolina, a Human Rights, Law and Research Officer at JIJ, was invited to the 2023 European union of Jewish students conference in Malaga.
At the conference, Carolina gave two lectures, discussing the different statuses of residence and citizenship under Israeli law.
And about the latest events of the EU, UN and ICC in relation to Israel and their potential implications.
Thank you for the invitation!
It was an amzing event.

Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Jordan presented his credentials on Saturday to begin serving as Riyadh’s first-ever non-resident ambassador to Palestine and its first-ever non-resident consul general to Jerusalem.
The move amounts to an apparent effort by Saudi Arabia to intensify its involvement in the region as Riyadh engages in negotiations with the Biden administration about potentially normalizing relations with Israel.
Because Sudairi will be a non-resident consul without a diplomatic mission in Jerusalem, approval is not required from Israel, which views the entire city as its undivided capital.
On August 12th, we celebrate the globally recognized International Youth Day. Here at the Jerusalem Institute of Justice, we are deeply engaged in fostering the growth and development of young professionals. We annually welcome over 20 interns, administer the impactful GDC Israel program, and this year, introduce an inspiring initiative named IL4C, designed to empower young Christians.
At the end of July, we concluded a summer internship session that was both enriching and enjoyable. For those curious about the vibrant experiences we shared, we invite you to indulge in this video that captures our journey.
For those eager to explore the realm of possibilities an internship with the Jerusalem Institute of Justice can offer, we invite you to peruse our website.

No matter where you are, may Shabbat's blessings find you. We wish you a meaningful and peaceful weekend!

Join us today at Kan Radio en Español! In this powerful new episode, we confront the stark reality of the four Israelis being held hostage in Gaza - Hadar Goldin, Oron Shaul, Avera Mengistu, and Hisham al-Sayed. Join us as we delve deep into the facts and shed light on the international legal violations surrounding their captivity.

Today, August 1st, marks the 9th anniversary of Hadar Goldin's kidnapping and murder. Hadar was a 23-year-old Israeli soldier kidnapped and killed by Hamas’ terrorists during a ceasefire. Oron Shaul was a soldier also killed and murdered by Hamas the same year. Hamas has still not returned their bodies, and is also holding Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed hostages in Gaza.
We stand together in solidarity with their families.
