Taking life-saving to the Community

Not even the crazy weather can stop the Negev Region's volunteers, who took their equipment and invited the local residents to learn how to perform CPR, provide first aid, and save lives. Amazing!

NOT LUXURY BUT A NECESSITY


Magen David Adom, in partnership with the Israeli Health Ministry, convened a conference for 200 medical professionals on the accessibility and provision of breast milk for newborns in need.

The goal of the conference was to raise awareness among hospital administrators and religious leaders about the importance of providing breast milk to premature infants. “For premature infants, breast milk is medicine,” said Dr. Sharron Bransburg-Zabary, head of the Sussman Milk Bank.

For many reasons, mothers of premature infants are often unable to provide their own milk. Over the past two years, MDA’s Sussman Milk Bank has supplied more than three and a half tons of milk to premature babies.

Breast milk provides critical nutrition and antibodies to preemies, many of whom can’t tolerate any other food source because of their underdeveloped digestive and immune systems. MDA identifies and interviews potential donor mothers across Israel, and picks up, tests, pasteurizes, stores, and distributes the milk to hospital neonatal units.

In conclusion, the panel equally praised and encouraged the provision of what is often a lifeline to premature infants.a religious implication and concerns session was held regarding donating and accepting breast milk from women who are not the babies’ birth mothers. We clarified to all panel members and head religion leaders the significance of maintaining the breast milk bank and assured the importance of keeping a registry of donor mothers so that when the children marry, we can ensure they are not closely related.

In conclusion the panel equally praised and encouraged the provision of what is often a lifeline to premature infants.

2022 HIGHLIGHTS

- MDA celebrated 92 years of activity!

- MDA's 101 Emergency Call Center received 2,898,816 calls in the past year, on average every 10.8 seconds.

- The average phone response time - just one second!

- MDA EMTs and Paramedics were sent out on 1,301,780 calls, on 2,000 emergency vehicles across the country.

- MDA now operates technologically advanced command-and-control (C&C) vehicle, 1 national and 3 regional C&C vehicles.

- MDA's emergency vehicles and crew were dispatched on average every 24 seconds.

- MDA established 204 new Smart Stand Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) in 38 towns across Israel. MDA has also placed 600 defibrillators in synagogues around the country.

- Regarding Corona – MDA EMTs and Paramedics tested millions of people in the drive-thru testing stations, at hundreds of rapid testing areas, schools, shopping malls, people's homes using video-observed antigen testing, and other places across Israel.

- A joint medical training delegation with teams from Magen David Adom and three Israeli hospitals traveled to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, in order to share knowledge of trauma treatment with local medical teams. The delegates presented practical and educational workshops; lectures, simulations, trauma scenario drills, and the use of advanced medical equipment, in order to improve the treatment of trauma patients.

- MDA EMTs answered 85,609 calls in the Ukraine Refugee Call Center which is operated from MDA's National Dispatch Center in Kiryat Ono. This is in cooperation with the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security, assisting Ukrainian refugees in Israel with housing, food vouchers, and medical treatment.

- 262,149 units of blood were collected by MDA's Blood Services staff across the country. All blood donations were checked for blood type and risk of infectious diseases in MDA's Blood Services labs, and provided to all hospitals and the IDF.

- 230 Human Milk Donors joined the Milk Bank in 2022, all meeting the highest medical standards, in order to provide milk of the highest quality to premature babies.

- 262,149 units of blood were collected by MDA's Blood Services staff across the country. This is 's new sophisticated bus and the first of its kind in Israel.

This state-of-the-art bus was donated by Eleanor Jaffe and Bernice Friedman from Florida. Equipped with special donation seats for the benefit of blood donors and advanced multimedia screens. In view of the shortage of type O blood donations, this new and unique blood donation bus has recently joined the fleet of blood donation vehicles that are already operating all over the country, with the aim of optimizing the blood donation process for both donors and MDA's medical teams.

The tradition continues: Magen David Adom's "Menorah on Wheels" project!

The project was launched for the first time three years ago, following the crisis - MDA decided that there was a special need to bring the spirit of the to all Israeli citizens subject to the restrictions imposed.
"It is very exciting to drive through the streets and see the eyes of our citizens light up with joy at the sight of the menorah."

The project was initiated by Rabbi Yonatan Spitzer, an ambulance driver and emergency medicine medic at MDA. The giant menorah is attached to the MDA ambulance trailer - which is driven throughout the Hanukkah holiday at various locations throughout the country. The menorah is accompanied by a convoy of MDA volunteers and employees on motorcycles, ATVs, ambulances, and intensive care vehicles - with the aim of bringing the spirit of the holiday to the general public.

MDA Spokesman: at 09:35 this morning, MDA was informed of an incident on Highway 5 on the way to Ariel. MDA EMTs and Paramedics are providing medical treatment to two injured people, one male in his 50s in critical condition due to a car ramming incident and a 35 year old male, in critical condition from stabbing wounds.

Magen David Adom at International Multi-Casualty Incident Response Drill

The drill concluding the annual disaster workshop arranged by the Madrid Municipality and 1,200 emergency personnel, was made up of three different scenes representing three different sized incidents. The emergency crews were called to deal with scenarios including shootings, explosions and hostage situations. Some 100 patients were evacuated to hospitals under police es**rt, with routes being cleared by the respective agencies, where hospital staff took over the treatment. 600 medical staff took part in the exercise, along with 60 ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, 3 helicopters, a plane, rescue dogs and attack dogs.

The exercise was preceded by a session arranged by MDA and SAMUR Proteccion Civil Madrid, within the European Union’s “No Fear” project. We must prepare the teams to comprehend what they are facing, how to make educated decisions to ensure their safety and how to save lives while under threat – in the best way possible.

Yesterday we went to Christ Church at Jaffa Gate, in the Old City of Jerusalem, to give blood at the CFMDA blood drive. It was a fulfilling experience and left everyone feeling positive and privileged to contribute.

Alex Michigan, an example and model of free love, endless giving and saving lives around the clock.
For decades, the family members of Alex Michigan from Tiberias are used to the fact that at times, during a family event or a meal, he receives a phone call, takes his helmet and medical kit, gets on his scooter and drives quickly to save lives. Alex Michigan is an 80 year old man, father to four, grandfather to 12 and a medic at MDA.

"My career took me by surprise he says "In 1971 there was a shooting from the direction of Jordan to Tiberias. I was in the area and immediately treated the casualties." The director of MDA in Tiberias, saw what Alex had done and was impressed by his resourcefulness. Soon after Alex was recruited, and has been in Magen David Adom since - treating the injured from terrorist attacks, accident casualties and the sick.

As we close Sukkot on the seventh day, "Hoshana Rabbah", we finalize our name in the book of life and Celebrate the receiving of the Torah on "Simchat Torah". On this day, we joyfully circle the Torah seven times singing and dancing.

Thousands of food packages were collected and packed by MDA volunteers for low income families in preparation for the High Holidays.

MDA CEO Eli Bin: MDA as Israel's National Rescue Organization engages throughout the year in humanitarian activities for the community. This year, MDA volunteers, teenagers and adults, together with the welfare officials and authorities throughout the country made their best efforts to help provide ingredients and produce for a full and dignified holiday meal for low-income families. It is important for us to help and reach as many people in need as possible. This is a humanitarian mission that the volunteers were able to do thanks to the citizens who rallied and donated many necessities, and for that we thank them.

We dwell in the Sukkah, so that our future generations will know that God had sheltered and protected the children of Israel as He took them out of the land of Egypt. These shelters were called "Clouds of Glory", they encompassed the entire nation during their 40-year wander through the Sinai desert. It is a time of joy as we celebrate our freedom.

Yom Kippur is the most powerful day of the year.
Here God shows us his infinite and unconditional love for humanity.
This is a day of fasting and prayer as we humble ourselves before God and ask for His forgiveness for our sins, regrets, sorrows and pains. In song and prayer we share a personal and intimate relationship with God. He will always forgive us if we ask.
While it is a day of atonement it is also a time of great celebration as we are sealed in The Book of Life.

How does the interconnect technology work?
Setting the type of emergency into any of the service’s computer-assisted dispatch systems will determine whether multiple agencies are needed at the scene.

For example, a call to MDA regarding someone injured in a shooting would automatically summon both an ambulance and police. Likewise, reporting an apartment fire to the Israel Fire and Rescue Service would summon personnel from all three services — firefighters to address the blaze itself, police to control street traffic, and ambulances to treat anyone potentially injured.

“We’ve long believed that having separate numbers for police, EMS and fire rescue has been an advantage for callers in an emergency,” said Eli Bin, director-general of MDA. “In a medical emergency, for example, callers are instantly connected to an EMT or paramedic, who can provide lifesaving medical instructions to the caller while the ambulance is dispatched.”

At just 18 years old, the then-princess Elizabeth joined the British Military, serving in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service during WWII.
She was the first woman from the Royal Family to ever serve in the military.
