Another jam-packed educational week for students visiting from the US on our Nefesh B'Nefesh Aliyah Campus led by Rabbi Uri Pilichowski and Daniel Geller (Nefesh B'Nefesh Zionist Education Initiative).

Check it out and follow them for daily updates! See comments for more.
This week, the Nefesh B'Nefesh Zionist Education Initiative (ZEI) hosted participants from all over the United States on our Nefesh B'Nefesh Aliyah Campus to discuss the pride of Zionism and what it has accomplished over time.

Starting with a chat about the story of 'Operation Yonatan' / The Raid on Entebbe, the different groups connected to the Jewish transition from victims to victors as Israel and the Jewish people continue to thrive and innovate - creating a better world against the odds.

ZEI also hosted the weekly Lifelong Learners class that is a deep dive into different Zionist-related topics and a chat about anti-Zionism as the latest iteration of antisemitism over wine and cheese.

Looking forward to hosting and educating more groups and individuals in the coming week!

Nefesh B'Nefesh Camp is a go!

This past week, NBN Camp opened on the Nefesh B'Nefesh Aliyah Campus in Jerusalem with amazing activities!

After being introduced to veteran Camp Director, Jake Vidomlanski, the kids quickly became acquainted with a scavenger hunt in Machane Yehuda and a cooking lesson. Over the last few days, they’ve been busy playing games, visiting the Old City of עיריית ירושלים, attending a magic show, working on arts & crafts while making the best of friends along the way.

Stay tuned for more!

Mothers of lone soldiers reunite with their children in Jerusalem 💚
35 mothers of lone soldiers currently in Israel on a special trip with Momentum thought they were attending an educational seminar at the new Nefesh B'Nefesh Aliyah Campus in Jerusalem on Friday when they were surprised by their children serving in the Israel Defense Forces
The mothers were hosted by First Lady Michal Herzog and the event was coordinated by Momentum and Nefesh B'Nefesh-FIDF Lone Soldiers.
The mothers, many of whom hadn’t seen their sons or daughters since last year, arrived in Israel last Monday from all over the world, including the U.S., Canada, Argentina, Australia, Mexico, and South Africa. They came to Israel thanks to Momentum, a global movement that helps women deeply connect to their Jewish values and to the State of Israel.

The mothers of lone soldiers arrived as part of a much larger delegation of 550 women who are taking part in Momentum’s flagship 8-day trip to Israel, which is done in partnership with the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs.

The emotional reunion of the mothers with their children in uniform was part of a joint effort between Momentum and the FIDF - Nefesh B’Nefesh Lone Soldiers program. Prior to meeting with their children, they met at the Nefesh B’Nefesh campus where they heard from Dr. Deborah Gilboa, a board-certified family physician and international parenting speaker (also a mother of a lone soldier) who spoke about the importance of resilience.

Momentum participant Kim Scop from South Africa was delighted to reunite with her son after not seeing him for four months. “This trip has been amazing. To have a group of people who have this unique thing in common, to be around other mothers who know how it feels and how hard it is to have a child serving in an army who is protecting a country worlds away from where you are is special; all of us understand that every day is a worry. I feel super inspired and grateful to be on this trip.”

“[My son] was one of the first soldiers who I saw come through the doors and he told me that was because the ones who entered the room first were selected based on mothers who cried the most this week. So that's definitely me! I saw him and jumped off the stage to give him a big hug.”

“As a mother of a lone soldier myself, I know how much they long for the strength that can be found in a parent - especially in a mother - when they leave to defend a country that is so far away," Momentum Founding Director Lori Palatnik, said. "Momentum is proud to support the critical goal of helping Jewish women all around the world connect with Israel and their roots. We are especially privileged to fulfill this dream of our participants, some of whom have been waiting so long to come to Israel because of the Covid-19 pandemic."

The FIDF-Nefesh B’Nefesh Lone Soldiers Program cares for some 3500 Olim (immigrants) soldiers from around the world currently in active service. This program, with the full support of the IDF, offers guidance, support, and care for all lone soldier Olim during each stage of their service, after release from the army, and during the adjustment stages to civilian life.

"It’s remarkable for us to have helped assist the emotional reunions of these incredibly devoted and supportive mothers of our lone soldier Olim, who have been required to serve in the IDF upon their Aliyah (immigration to Israel), at far distances from their families abroad," said Rabbi Yehoshua Fass, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Nefesh B’Nefesh. "These mothers and soldiers demonstrate for us all how modern-day Zionism is flourishing, and we are grateful to them for the crucial role they play in defending the Jewish State.”

These mothers were provided with Momentum’s finely curated and jam-packed itinerary that helped them connect to Israel. Their schedule also featured highlights specifically catered to them so they could find strength and support in other Jewish women who understand the pain and pride associated with being a mother of a lone soldier. In addition to Friday’s uplifting event, they also met last Thursday with Israel’s First Lady Michal Herzog, who is a staunch supporter of lone soldiers at the President’s Residence.

“I would like to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart,” Herzog said. “It should not be taken for granted that your children chose to serve in the IDF. And it should certainly not be taken for granted that you are supporting them from afar. As a mother of three former soldiers, I can’t imagine what it would be like to have children serve when you are so far away. But what I can say is that serving will be a life-altering experience for them where they will make friends that will remain loyal to them forever.”

As Chanukah approaches, the Ori for Lone Bnot Sherut - Nefesh B'Nefesh hosted a special ‘Evening of Light and Song’ ‘Erev Or V’Shir’ in memory of Ori Ansbacher (z’l). Ori’s mother Noa, shared Ori’s unique light as expressed in stories about her, and in her beautiful poetry.

Nefesh B'Nefesh named our program Ori to honor her legacy and now, hundreds of Lone Bnot Sherut are brought together in her name and spread their own light in Ori’s memory,

After her death, her friends turned a poem she wrote called עשה לך שלום into a song that was played during the evening's ceremonies.

Ori was an incredible girl, and it is an honor to all of us to be a part of a program named after such a person. ❤️

Mazal tov to Yoel Epstein and Alaina Bon! Last night we had the honor and privilege to host our first wedding on our campus.

This was a unique and special event as both the bride and groom are former and current lone soldiers who made Aliyah from different countries, but both for the same purpose of contributing to the Jewish state. Attended by 200 guests from Israel, the United Kingdom and United States, we were thrilled to take part in hosting their memorable evening.

"I am so happy about my decision to make Aliyah, because it was that decision that led me to my partner for life,” said Alaina. “I am grateful for Nefesh B'Nefesh and every individual who was part of the process of our Aliyah and army service." Yoel added, "There are many more stories like ours, and I wish for us and all of them a lifetime of joyous moments, good health, and continued Zionism.”

Via our Nefesh B'Nefesh, Events and Marketing Coordinator Shira Gottlieb after a successful summer of jam-packed events at our campus:

“What did you do this summer?”

As the summer comes to a close everyone seems to be asking this question. (Or is it just me?!)

But my answer is a bit different than the typical answer….

For the first time, Nefesh B'Nefesh decided to run a leadership fellowship for their employees. I was lucky enough to be apart of the first cohort!

One highlight of this fellowship included a project proposal for the organization.

I focused my project on summer programming for Olim, with a special focus on Young Professionals.

After an incredible summer, I am proud to say that I organized and ran 14 events at Nefesh B’Nefesh! Yes 14!

9 were focused on Young Professionals and 5 were for all ages, all located at the beautiful Nefesh B’Nefesh Aliyah Campus.

These events included:
4th of July BBQ
A film screening
2 networking nights
3 craft nights
Yoga
A Shabbat Dinner
Zionism workshops
A comedy night
And more!

Overall, we have had 500+ Olim visit the campus and meet other Olim to help each other build and thrive in their communities in Israel.

All of our vendors were Olim too! It was so exciting to support these incredible Olim started businesses.

I feel so lucky and privileged to work at an amazing organization with a supportive team that encourage me to come up with new ideas and help me execute them.

I have learned so much over the past few months and am looking forward to what comes next!

What events would you like to see from NBN?"

Through games, discussions, and student presentations, the group took a deep dive into the different types of Zionism, their values and where to find these ideas in modern movements. All of which, was designed to strengthen the connection the group has to Israel and equip them for when they return to their communities after their gap year.

Nefesh B'Nefesh-FIDF Lone Soldiers presented the participants with an introductory session about what they do for lone soldiers and how they help them before, during, and after their service.

Aliyah Advisor, Yitz Motzen, also spent some time with the students explaining the basic early steps of the Aliyah process.

Wishing you continued growth and success - can't wait to host you back on the campus soon!

🥰☺️

"My name is Tova Borvick and my family and I made Aliyah in 2003 when I was six years old. I attended Nitzanim school in Jerusalem until I was 21 years old.

I then got the best job ever working at Nefesh B'Nefesh for 4 years. I worked at the front desk, welcoming guests. I also had many other fun jobs and responsibilities during my time there.

The staff was wonderful and I felt like I was part of the amazing NBN family. I was so proud to help people make Aliyah and I can't wait to come back to NBN to visit my many great friends there."

Wishing you the best of luck and continued success in this next chapter of your life Tova! You will always be a part of the NBN family 🥰
