Frame it

Today the art world says goodbye to David Hockney – an artist who taught us to look differently at colour, landscape and the joy of seeing.

His fearless use of vibrant colour and his celebration of the everyday inspired generations of artists, makers and craftspeople. His legacy will continue to inspire for years to come.

It felt especially fitting that recently I finished framing these beautiful hand-stitched textile panels.

There is over 100 hours of meticulous stitching gone into these four pieces, this lady really has captured a truly special piece of art in textile form! 🥰

Each one rich with colour, texture and movement. Their sweeping landscapes and bold palette immediately brought Hockney’s work to mind.

To complement the artwork, I hand-painted a raw wood frame in a soft pistachio green, carefully chosen from one of the colours within the embroidery. Each textile was gently stretched and hand-mounted onto a backing board, with a deep slip creating space so every stitch sits safely away from the UV70 non-reflective glass. The result protects the work while allowing all of its wonderful texture to be seen and appreciated.

Framing is never just about the frame. It’s about honouring the countless hours, creativity and craftsmanship that an artist pours into their work, ensuring it can be enjoyed for generations.

Today feels like a reminder that great art isn’t defined by its medium. Whether created with paint, thread or any other material, it is the passion, imagination and dedication behind it that truly lasts.

Rest in peace, David Hockney. Thank you for helping us all see the world in colour. 💚

A special framing piece that meant a lot to its owner 💫

We recently had the pleasure of framing this Sligo Rovers jersey from the 1990’s, belonging to former player Sean Flannery — a fantastic piece of local sporting history.

The jersey is beautifully paired with a team photograph from the time, with all names included, making it a truly personal and meaningful display.

Sean now runs SFX Sports & Fitness here in Rathcormack, so it’s especially nice to see this piece stay local 👏
