Loose-lead walking starts with understanding, not just stopping the pulling. πΎ
This young dog is learning what information from the lead means: when tension appears, ease it and reconnect with the owner rather than keep pulling against it.
π Watch around 7 seconds. As the owner changes direction, the dog turns with her without an extra prompt. A small moment, but an important one: the dog is paying attention to the person sharing the walk.
We build on these moments to help young dogs pause, disengage from distractions and make calmer choices, rather than rush towards every scent or grab everything within reach.
Sniffing and exploring still belong on a good walk! The aim is to balance that freedom with communication, helping the dog explore the world without becoming overwhelmed.
Clear guidance, well-timed rewards and consistent practice β the foundations of calmer walks together.

πΎ **Puppy biting and chewing β what should you do?**
Biting and chewing are normal parts of puppy development. Puppies explore with their mouths, play, go through teething and often bite more when they are overexcited, frustrated or simply overtired.
The goal is not to punish the puppy, but to teach them what to do instead.
β
**DO:**
β’ Make sure your puppy gets enough sleep and quiet time.
β’ Provide safe, suitable chews.
β’ Keep tempting objects out of reach.
β’ Stop the game as soon as your puppyβs teeth touch your skin or clothing.
β’ Use a short break or reset if your puppy cannot settle.
β’ Notice and reward calm behaviour β not only active training.
β **DONβT:**
β’ Shout, hit or hold the puppyβs mouth closed.
β’ Turn every bite into an exciting game with a toy.
β’ Chase the puppy to recover stolen objects.
β’ Expect them to make good choices when overtired or overstimulated.
β’ Give them more freedom than they are ready to handle.
Good management prevents unwanted habits from being practised. Clear, calm and consistent responses help your puppy learn what is expected.
If biting or chewing is becoming difficult to manage, an individual puppy training session can help you understand the cause and choose the right approach.

It has been a while since I was active on Facebook, but I never stopped working with dogs.
Other commitments meant that I had to reduce my DogBase activity for a time. Now I am becoming more active again and look forward to sharing both past and future experiences with you.
The photo is from one of my recent training sessions β a reminder that although Facebook was quiet, the work continued.
DogBase remained available on Google Maps, and I have also refreshed the website:

Here on Facebook, I will share moments from training sessions and home visits, along with practical advice about common problems. Often, positive change begins with a few simple adjustments to a dogβs daily routine.
Thanks for being here β and feel free to get in touch.

Loose lead walking is not just about holding the lead differently β it starts with clear communication and consistent practice.
This is the result after just two lessons. Thanks to the ownerβs commitment and work between sessions, the progress has been huge: a calmer dog, a looser lead and a more relaxed walk together.
Every dog learns at a different pace, but consistency makes a real difference.

My second meeting with PoppyπΆ The main topic was the impact of human behavior on dog behavior. When working with a reactive dog, we must remember that it is our reaction and behavior that determines how the dog will react to the stimulus that worries him. Supporting the dog in the right way and at the right moment is one of the most important elements of behavioral training for a reactive dog.

My first meeting with Nero. 3-year-old Rottweiler with socialisation problems. Fortunately, Nero is not aggressive, but he is too interested in the people passing by him. Keep your fingers crossed for Nero and Dorota. π€

Another meeting with Pebbles.
You may remember the photos I posted from the previous meeting. Pebbles reacts much calmer to her surroundings and has improved her behaviour since the last meeting. There would be no progress without her owner's consistent work.
Great job Zen and Pebbles! πͺπ₯
