Following a well-attended Town Hall meeting in the Headfort Arms Hotel, a catalogue of ideas were put forward by members of the public aimed at bringing about positive change. A special thanks to everyone who attended the launch of Kells Type Trail 2026 which is curated by our own Mark Smith.
The huge turnout reflected the popularity of this annual festival which celebrates type as an art form and continues the legacy of the creative work begun in the Town from which the World famous Book of Kells originated from.
The Type Trail continues until August 21st 2026.
Expect to see visitors from across the World arrive in town over the coming months to view the recently opened Kells Printing Works on Church Lane.

After almost ten years of work and lobbying, the Kells Print Works on Church Lane, formerly known as The Sawmills, was formally opened today by Dara Calleary, the Minister for Social Protection, Community and Rural Development.
The building, which is sure to be a hit with visitors and tourists, will celebrate print as an art form and ties in with the great tradition of the work done centuries ago by local monks who wrote the priceless Book of Kells.
The venue will open its doors for greater public use in the coming months and will host a number of events during the forthcoming Hinterland Literary Festival.
For local typographer Mark Smith, this is a dream come true and his vision and persuasive persistence has resulted in creating this new facility for the town of Kells.
Special mention too to KLH volunteer Angela Ryan whose initial discovery of posters and material printed locally by a wharfedale printing press in the Town contributed greatly to making this project happen.
A word too for everybody in Meath Co. Council who funded the re-construction as well as Councillors Sean Drew and Sarah Reilly.
We can't forget Loreto Guinan and Gerardette Bailey of Meath CC who got the project over the line.
Well done to all concerned.
