This Sunday, our very best wishes go to Galway and Spain as they prepare for two huge finals.

There is a special connection between Galway and Spain that stretches back centuries. The iconic Spanish Arch stands as a lasting reminder of the friendship and trade between Galway and Spanish merchants, linking our communities since the 16th century.

Today, that shared history is joined by something else we have in common—a passion for sport, community and representing our people with pride.

As fellow Europeans, we celebrate not only healthy competition but also the friendships and cultural ties that unite us across borders.

Delighted to support Portumna Food Fayre with Local Artisan Producers this Sunday, 5th July! 🧺🍅

Patrick's Street will be closed to traffic for the day as local food producers, artisan makers, and growers set up stalls—think fresh seasonal produce, homemade jam and bread, honey, gluten-free treats, arts and crafts, vintage clothing, and family activities.

There'll be live music, cookery demos and kids' activities too.

It's a brilliant showcase of what East Galway has to offer and a great reminder that shopping local keeps it in the community. Come down and support our local producers and makers!

Congratulations Councillor Ivan Canning on the delivery of these projects all very welcome additions to Visit Portumna for locals and visitors alike.

I am delighted to say after my many representations which have been ongoing for the last number of years, there have been many accessibility improvements made to Portumna Town recently.
Firstly, the accessible ramps and realigning of the road at Billy Martins Juction have made this corner much safer for all road users and pedestrians.
The new Paedestrian Crossing at Dillons Corner has been a very welcome improvement to insure our town is accessible to all. (We are just waiting for the flashing beacons to be installed by Electric Skyline)
Finally, the Wheelchair Parking outside the Cottage Stores which I funded from my own discretionary funds, is proving to be very successful, given its location on the Main Street, which was needed for a long number of years.
