hey guys! we are back with another testimonial this tuesday!!

today we have Patrick’s testimonial which talks a bit about integration. as one of our main goals is integration, we aim to do achieve this by keeping constant contact with our participants and making sure they are doing ok and achieving what they have set out to achieve and providing support wherever we can such as carrying out mock interviews or cv help or connecting our participants with the local community! 🙌 throughout the year, we hold regular meetings to catch up ☕️ and just have a chat as well.

hello guys 👋 on today’s series of Throwback Thursdays, let us take you back to our Public Speaking Workshop 🗣 with mindset coach, Khalil. 🧠

🌟 we designed the workshop to cater for participants by giving them the skills and the confidence needed to help them become more active members of their communities 🏘

below are some of the top tips the participants learned about.

🌎 when you first start to present, everybody knows it can be difficult and you will be nervous, however people will generally support you. Spend a little time focusing on the friendly faces as it will help you feel at ease.

🌎 know the audience, research your audience and tailor your message appropriately.

🌎 create a framework for your speech with a clear and cohesive introduction, middle and end. Make sure to grab the audience's attention within the first 30 seconds.

🌎 nerves and fear can only be overcome with practice, so keep practicing and rehearse your content so you are more familiar with it. Throw yourself into public speaking opportunities.

📚 UNITAS IS BACK!

We’d like to present our story writing competition! Do you have a fairytale told to you by your parents or a myth common in your native country? Write a creative story about it and be in with a chance to win some great prizes! 🐉🎏🔮🪅

The competition is open to children and young adults who are international protection applicants or living in direct provision to share stories that they have heard growing up from their countries. 🌎🌏🌍

At Unitas, our aim is to help those living in direct provision to integrate into their local communities. One of the ways we do this is through our children’s storybook which helps promote cultural appreciation and diversity to children from a young age. Through the competition, we will showcase children’s talents and stories and share them with our local communities. 🙇‍♀️🗣🙇‍♂️

Meet the Workshop Team! 💛

Our workshop team organised our weekly workshops for our Unitas participants. They listen to the needs of the participants and carefully plan engaging speakers to give insight on a variety of topics, from public speaking skills to entrepreneurship. 📚

Hello everyone!!
As you can probably see from the post, workshop number 8 was on the topic of Entrepreneurship!👨🏽‍💻👨🏻‍💼👩🏾‍💼It was hosted by the amazing Mike Kelly of Saraim, and we all learned so much!!

Here are some of the key takeaways:

▪ The first question an entrepreneur should always ask themselves is “Is there demand for this product?”.

▪ Make sure you understand all costs – even hidden costs! You can do this by scenario planning. 💰

▪ If you want to be taken seriously as an entrepreneur, you have to have a business plan or brief put together – this helps others visualize and understand your business📄.

▪ Take a free Start Your Own Business Course (SYOB) to tell you all the basics about starting your new enterprise📚.

Mike also spoke about supports that are available to entrepreneurs, and the work that he does mentoring entrepreneurs for minority groups, such as refugees! Check out his YouTube and Saraim.org to find some presentations & case studies in entrepreneurial success by refugees, travellers & former inmates. 🙌🏻

Getting the word out about what Unitas does is very important for the successful implementation of our project and to reach more people who are interested to get involved with what we do 💪🏽💛

As you all know we are a student-led social enterprise and we are creating a storybook with stories, myths and legends from different countries and cultures around the world and would love to get refugees, international protection applicants and asylum seekers involved!

We wish to promote cultural diversity and raise awareness about the refugee crisis and the direct provision system in Ireland. 🌎

We are also hosting a creative writing workshop on the 31st March at 6pm for anyone who wishes to come on board with the story book!

Last week we had a fantastic workshop with Carmen Silvia Ribeiro all about resilience for our participants 💪
Here are some of the key takeaways from the evening :
1. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity. Struggles and disappointments are inevitable, it’s all about how you handle them .
2. The qualities that will help you overcome these barriers are curiosity , perseverance and adaptability .
3. A big barrier to growth is the fixed mindset - believing we are all born with gifts and limitations we can do nothing to change .
4. We should all adopt the growth mindset instead - believing we have the power to change our lives.
5. Core values are the qualities most important to you .By building habits into your daily life that develop them you will stay more motivated and fulfilled.
Thanks so much to Silvia for hosting this inspirational workshop . All of us at Unitas really enjoyed it and are motivated to become more resilient :)))
