The David Attenborough mural at Arklow Skate Park has now been painted over as the artwork at the site continues to evolve.

We spoke to the artist Kayde who was behind the original mural about seeing his work replaced and his response is very much in the spirit of the street art scene.

“As sad as I was to see the David Attenborough mural painted over, I think it's important that we have the space for artists to express themselves.”

“It gives a deep pride of place for locals – the same way the Attenborough mural did.”

“It’s the nature of the medium, and it brings excitement to see what might come next.”

Wicklow County Council is set to survey a sample of its social housing stock over the coming months as part of ongoing work to assess the condition of its properties and plan future maintenance.

Inspections will also take place at a selection of private rental properties across the county, including some HAP, RAS and Approved Housing Body properties.

A new teen club night is returning to Arklow Town FC on Saturday September 26th aimed at students entering 1st & 2nd Year.

The alcohol-free event will feature a DJ, professional lighting, gaming zone, photobooth, prizes and giveaways, with security and event staff on site throughout the evening.

The organisers say the aim is to give younger teens a proper night out locally in a safe and supervised environment.

The seven wind turbines that have stood off the Arklow coast for more than 20 years could be removed under a new decommissioning application.

Arklow Energy Limited has applied to An Coimisiún Pleanála to dismantle and remove the original Arklow Bank Wind Park Phase I, including the seven turbines, underwater cables and the associated substation at Arklow Harbour.

The company says the ageing infrastructure is continuing to deteriorate and that removal is needed to address potential safety and environmental risks.

If permission is granted in 2027, the applicant says offshore works could potentially take place during 2028.

Public Toilets at South Quay now fully operational and accessible

Wicklow County Council is warning that leaving items outside bottle and textile banks is illegal dumping and could lead to a fine of up to €4,000.

The council says CCTV has now been installed at bottle banks across the county following a high volume of dumping.

Litter fines have also increased from €150 to €250 per offence since September 1st.

The council is also warning residents about unlicensed waste collectors and says a receipt is not a Waste Collection Permit.
