Tiny house question 👇

About a month ago, I started a discussion on Reddit asking:
“What’s something about tiny houses you still can’t find clear answers on?”
It turned into a really insightful conversation 👀

People shared real experiences about:
• permits & regulations
• living in a tiny house
• unexpected challenges
(And as expected… it varies a LOT depending on the area!)

I’m sharing this because I know many of you are navigating the same questions 💭

👉 Feel free to ask your questions in the comments. I’ll do my best to help based on my experience in architecture

📚 If you’re interested in learning more, my tiny house book is now available, and I also share additional insights and discussions on my Reddit page

Where can you actually put a tiny house? 👇

It’s one of the biggest misconceptions about tiny living.
Most people think you can just buy land and build…
but the reality is a lot more complicated than that.

📍 Zoning rules decide where you can place it
📏 They affect size, structure, and requirements
🏗️ And sometimes… they make it impossible

I’ve seen people design their dream tiny house,
only to realize too late they can’t legally use it where they planned.

It’s not just about building it…
it’s about knowing where it’s actually allowed.

That’s why understanding zoning should come before you even start designing.

I learned this the hard way, and it’s something I now share to help others avoid the same mistakes.

I go deeper into this in my guide. (link in bio)

🏡✨Hello Tiny House Enthusiasts,

I created a post a month ago on Reddit that sparked a really insightful discussion. A lot of valuable experiences and perspectives have been shared through the questions and responses, especially around regulations, permits, and real-life situations (which can vary a lot depending on the area).

I thought it might be helpful to share it here as well 👇

Building permits don’t have to be confusing 🏗️

In this video, I break down how building permits work, using a real case example from Québec, Canada, but the process is surprisingly similar in many places.

If you’re planning to build (tiny house or not), understanding permits early can save you time, money, and stress.

🏡Tiny house on wheels = design first, freedom later

A lot of people focus on the dream, but forget the road.

If your design does not respect legal limits, width, height, weight, length, you cannot just fix it later. Even a small excess can make your build illegal to tow or unsafe at highway speed.

You end up with something hard to move, expensive to modify, or worse, dangerous.

To stay road legal, you need to think about it from the very beginning:

-Proper dimensions within legal limits
-A trailer, axles, and brakes rated for the real final weight
-Balanced weight distribution for stability on the road
-Approved lights and visibility for safety
-A tow vehicle that can handle the full load, including water and furniture

This is where many builds fail, not during construction, but during planning.

Ignoring this is not just about fines, it affects control, braking distance, and overall safety.

You do not design a tiny house and hope it fits the road, you design it for the road from day one.

💬 Have you run into weight or size issues during your build?

Most tiny house mistakes don’t happen during the build…
they happen before you even start.

I learned that the hard way when I built my own tiny house.

Before you design anything, you need to think about:
- regulations
- your lifestyle
- your real budget

Because once you skip those steps, everything becomes harder (and more expensive).

And if you're serious about building your own tiny house, I put everything I learned into a step-by-step guide to help you avoid those mistakes.

👉 Start right. It saves time, money, and a lot of stress.

This mistake can ruin your tiny house project before you even start.

We often rush the beginning.
We just want to build… and think we’ll figure it out later.

That’s exactly what I did.

But some decisions can’t be fixed once it’s built.

I designed mine to travel without fully understanding what that really meant… and it cost me more than I expected, not just money.

The real mistake isn’t at the end.

It’s at the beginning.

Take your time. Think it through.

Don’t make the same mistake I did.
