What a splendid conclusion to April! Today marked the grand celebration of Poetry Month in Limerick 2024, held at The People's Museum of Limerick. The event was graced by the captivating performances of US poet Partridge Boswell and the talented ensemble Los Lorcas, who seamlessly merged poetry and music to create an electrifying experience for all in attendance.
Their repertoire ranged from the poignant verses of Kavanagh's 'Raglan Road' to the soulful melodies of Bob Dylan's 'Kansas City,' each piece delivered with remarkable passion and energy. Notably, band member and poet Peter Money added a distinctive flavor to the performance with his evocative spoken word poetry, reminiscent of the spirit of the 'beats,' complemented by the delicate guitar accompaniment of Partridge and Nat, weaving a tapestry of sound and emotion that left a lasting impression on the audience.

In the cool ambiance of The People's Museum of Limerick, under the banner of April is Poetry Month in Limerick 2024, a noteworthy event took place — the final book launch of the month. The spotlight fell on the acclaimed poet Gabriel Rosenstock, hailing from Kilfinane, Co Limerick, as he unveiled his latest work, 'Headlines', to an transfixed audience.
The evening, punctuated with the music and voice of our own Phila Grace, commenced with a profound introduction by none other than poet John Liddy, who skillfully illuminated the thematic depth of Rosenstock's collection. With eloquence, he navigated through the nuanced layers of the poems, offering a tantalising glimpse into the profound exploration of contemporary issues within the pages of 'Headlines'.
As Gabriel Rosenstock stepped up to the microphone, anticipation crackled in the air. Drawing inspiration from the fragmented narratives of the New York Times headlines, Rosenstock wove a tapestry of wit and wisdom. His verses transcended mere words, delving deep into the heart of societal absurdities and existential inquiries.
One particular moment of levity arose when Rosenstock playfully interrogated the notion of 'chicken' as a metaphor for the American condition, evoking laughter and introspection in equal measure. Through his poetic lens, everyday phenomena were transformed into profound reflections on the human experience.
With each poem, he painted vivid vignettes of life, inviting the audience to ponder, to laugh, and to contemplate the intricacies of the world around them.
As the echoes of applause reverberated throughout The People's Museum of Limerick, it was evident that Gabriel Rosenstock's 'Headlines' had left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate enough to witness this literary spectacle. The evening finished with poignant rendition of 'Deportees' sung by Phila Grace in which the audience joined in...magic!
