Inspired by the spirit of water, Riak Danum traces the unseen currents that sustain life, ripples that travel quietly through the forest, shaping ecosystems, carrying memory, and connecting what seems distant into one continuous flow.

Bungensem answers with a grounded presence, like a bloom emerging from the forest floor, holding within it the patience of growth, the weight of soil, and the quiet accumulation of stories rooted in place.

Together, they form a dialogue between movement and stillness, between what flows and what holds. A balance not of opposition, but of interdependence, where water gives life, and the land gives it meaning.

The tropical rainforests of Kalimantan are home to an extraordinary treasury of botanical wonders; multifunctional plants, medicinal herbs, and precious spices that have sustained Indigenous communities for generations. Beyond rattan, another remarkable forest gift from the heart of Borneo, particularly in West and East Kalimantan, is Tengkawang.

Often referred to as Borneo wild butter or illipe nut, Tengkawang is a rare forest seed harvested from majestic Shorea trees, long treasured by Indigenous communities for its rich natural oil; used in traditional food, healing, and beauty rituals.

At HANDEP, this remarkable botanical heritage has also inspired elements of our leather museum collection; where the richness of the forest is reinterpreted through design, craftsmanship, and contemporary luxury.

FROM JUNGLE VINE TO GLOBAL DESIGN LANGUAGE

Rattan is evolving; from traditional weaving and basketry to furniture, engineered materials, high-end bags and contemporary design innovation.

But beyond aesthetics, rattan carries something deeper:
culture, livelihoods, Indigenous knowledge, and the future of our forests.

Selamat Hari Kartini. 🤍

Confidence doesn’t always have to be loud. It can be soft, restful, and deeply grounded, felt rather than performed.

In a world that often celebrates boldness and noise, there is something powerful about moving with quiet certainty. About knowing who you are without needing to prove it. About choosing pieces that don’t compete for attention, but instead become part of your natural rhythm.

The Tengkawang Collection draws from the quiet beauty of the tengkawang tree, native to the rainforests of Borneo. It blooms only in rare cycles, when nature allows, sustaining both the ecosystem and the communities who have long depended on it. There is a quiet poetry in its rhythm; patient, intentional, and deeply rooted in place.

This collection is also integrate the Rumah Betang silhouette, the traditional Dayak longhouse, an enduring symbol of togetherness and shared living. These influences are translated into refined forms and textures, where heritage meets contemporary design. Each piece reflects a quiet balance between nature, culture, and craftsmanship.

Our creations are deeply inspired by the living landscape that surrounds our communities; the forests, the rivers, the traditional houses, and the everyday objects that shape life in Indigenous Dayak villages. These elements are woven into our design language, where nature and culture exist in quiet harmony.

Rooted in this landscape we are proud to call home, each piece reflects a heritage of craftsmanship that carries the spirit of place, tradition, and belonging.

SERAYU

Named after the Sanskrit word that speaks to the beauty of weaving, Serayu celebrates the poetry of craftsmanship; where patience, precision, and heritage come together in form.

Part of the Tengkawang Musim Hujan Collection 2026, this piece draws inspiration from the rare Tengkawang flower of Kalimantan’s rainforest, a bloom that appears only once a year, reminding us that true beauty unfolds in its own time.

Meticulously handwoven by Dayak artisans, Serayu embodies a quiet dialogue between nature and craft, where ancestral techniques are translated into contemporary elegance.

A piece to be carried, cherished, and passed on.
