Story Time with ZOHA Home Healthcare
๐ When Faith Meets Care: A Stroke Recovery Story๐
This week marked a miraculous milestone for one of our beloved elderly clients. A resilient woman now post-diagnosis of right-sided hemiplegia secondary to Stroke, bedridden, unable to speak, eat, or move the right side. Having that transformation which felt like a cruel verdict on someone they loved so dearly now dependent on nasogastric feeding. Definitely there must be something more that can be done here? the family exclaimed.
At week 4, our care coordinator stepped in with a personalized plan that honored her uniqueness, her age, her spirit and built a circle of trust around her among a compassionate physician, A dedicated physiotherapist, Our skilled and nurturing nurses and her unwavering family.
Together, we built a team that refused to accept defeat.
We remember that first Monday clearly. The atmosphere in her home was thick with fear. Her family was distraught, and understandably overwhelmed. How could they have not been, after getting such diagnosis and had been painted a bleak picture. The word stroke had slammed into their world like a brick. And to hear that this may be their momโs life forever... that was a reality too harsh to accept.
But in the midst of that storm, something shifted.
As we stepped into that space, Zoha didnโt just arrive with a stethoscope and charts. We came in with presence. With compassion. And with the quiet but steady message: โYou are not alone in this.โ
That moment became the beginning of a bond, where fear was met with reassurance, where advocacy replaced assumptions, and where a family once spiraling finally felt a sense of safety and trust.
It wasnโt all sunshine from there, no fairytale here. There were days of progress and days of pause, glimmers of hope and waves of fatigue. There were setbacks that tested faith, and victories that brought tears. But through it all, we stood beside her. Her team, her advocates, her extended care family.
And now, today, 13th week post-diagnose with stroke, weโre overjoyed to say:
โจ Sheโs showing movement in her right side
โจ Sheโs able to sit upright and balance herself
โจ Sheโs responding more sensitively to sound, movement and touch
โจ Her words sound more loud and clear
โจ And the most exciting development is now she tolerates food via oral intake! ๐
Where others saw the end, Zoha saw the beginning and even the light to their very tunnel of despair. We became a beacon of hope, a partner in healing, and a vessel of light โ exactly as our name promises.
What was once whispered as โno moreโ โฆ is now boldly declared as โmuch more.โ
To our phenomenal care team: THANK YOU. Your love is stitched into every success.
To her family: Your faith is unshakable. Your prayers have been heard now being delivered. You held on, even when the tide felt too strong.
The journey is not over, not even close.
Zoha has just updated her care plan to match her new milestones, โThis isnโt just care, itโs elevation through compassion.
Let this story be a reminder:
๐ซ Age is not a barrier
๐ซ Stroke is not the end
๐ซ And with the right team, healing becomes possible

๐ซ What Should NOT Be Done During Edema:
1. Do NOT ignore the swelling
Edema is often a symptom of an underlying issue (e.g., heart, kidney, or liver problems).
Delaying evaluation can make the condition worse or mask a serious problem.
2. Do NOT sit or stand for long periods
Prolonged immobility can cause fluid to pool, especially in the lower limbs.
Always try to elevate the legs and move regularly if possible.
3. Do NOT wear tight or restrictive clothing
Avoid socks with tight elastic bands or anything that constricts circulation.
This can worsen fluid retention and discomfort.
4. Do NOT consume too much salt
High sodium intake leads to fluid retention, making edema worse.
Stick to a low-sodium diet and read food labels carefully.
5. Do NOT skip prescribed diuretics or medications
These help reduce fluid buildup. Skipping doses can lead to worsening symptoms or complications.
Only stop medications under your doctorโs advice.
6. Do NOT self-diagnose or self-treat persistently worsening edema
You might be missing a serious condition like congestive heart failure, kidney disease, or deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Seek medical help if swelling is:
-Sudden or severe
-In one leg only
-Painful, red, or warm
-Accompanied by chest pain or shortness of breath
7. Do NOT apply heat to the swollen area
Heat can worsen inflammation and swelling.
Cold compresses may help, but only if approved by a healthcare provider.
8. Do NOT rely on massage unless cleared by a healthcare provider
In some cases, like lymphedema, specific medical massage may help.
But improper massage, especially if a blood clot is suspected, can be dangerous.
โ
Bonus Tip: Things That Help
Elevate legs above heart level when lying down
-Wear compression stockings (if advised)
-Stay hydrated
-Gentle movement or walking
-Follow any treatment plan from your healthcare provider
If youโre seeing edema in someone elderly, bedridden, or post-stroke (like some of your clients), consult with us today.
