Our 2nd Annual Invest-A-Thon/Business Pitch Competition saw 54 applications. 20 of those were shortlisted to pitch in a preliminary round, at which 5 advanced to the finals held at our Youth Conference on Sunday.
These 5 finalists demonstrated some of the key characteristics of successful entrepreneurs: creativity, passion, motivation, product or service knowledge, self-confidence, optimism, vision, persuasiveness, and tenacity!
We have no doubts that Jermaine Hall with Country Boy Farming Supplies, Earlecia Hieronymo with Khayr Organics, Clinton Samuels with Cobbec Vision, Delon Simpson with Kukki Aquaculture, and Brian Smith with Dragonfly Geospatial Aerial Production, will be top names in their respective industries.
Congratulations to all of you, and to all our applicants, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. It may not happen in your time, but believe that it will happen. Stay steadfast to your goals, put in the work and you will achieve great things!
At our Youth Conference, the attendees benefitted immensely from a healthy panel discussion on how the nascent oil and gas sector provides the perfect opportunity for African Guyanese young entrepreneurs to launch new business ideas.
Members of the audience were given the opportunity to share challenges and pose questions to the panelists on how to navigate those challenges that affect people from the African-Guyanese community.
IDPADA-G is grateful for the presence and wisdom shared by the panelists: Dr. Melissa Varswyk, Mr. Aggrey Marsh, Mr. Keon Smith, Mr. Joshua Edwards, and Ms. Avia Maria Lindie! And our moderator, Youth Committee member, Mr. Kobe Smith.
The judges of IDPADA-G's Youth Committee Invest-A-Thon/Pitch Competition had quite the task - shortlisting 20 applicants from 54, listening to the 20 pitches at the preliminary round, selecting 5 to advance to the finals on Sunday, and deciding the results from the final pitches.
To Professor Leyland Lucas, Mr. Terrence Campbell, Mr. John Edghill, Ms. Ndibi Schwiers, Mrs. Lyndell Danzie-Black and Mrs. Tamika Henry-Fraser, you all did a fantastic job!
Thank you for your time, your constructive remarks and your trusted decision.
