“Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the Goals”.

Join us in celebrating the International Day of Peace with the Scout Association of Guyana.

Together, let's spread love, understanding, and harmony across borders and generations, making our world a better place for all.

21/09/2023

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21st September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.
In 2021, as we heal from the COVID-19 pandemic, we are inspired to think creatively and collectively about how to help everyone recover better, how to build resilience, and how to transform our world into one that is more equal, more just, equitable, inclusive, sustainable, and healthier. The 2023 theme for the International Day of Peace is “Action for Peace” I invite you to join the efforts of the United Nations family as they focus on recovering better for a more equitable and peaceful world. Celebrate peace by standing up against acts of hate online and offline, and by spreading compassion, kindness, and hope for a peaceful world.

Our Deputy Chief Commissioner, Ms. Zaida Joaquín is also attending the 25th World Scout Jamboree as the Co- Hub Chief for one of the Hubs. She is the only female to hold this role at the jamboree and is responsible for 10,000 of the 44,000 scouts who are attending the jamboree from 153 countries. For this and many more of her contributions to scouting activities, world wide and locally, she has certainly put Guyana and SAG on the map.. We are proud of her.

Despite the reports of heat waves we are happy to report that our scouts are all fine. And that the South Korean government, their scout association and the World Scout Organization are all working to ensure the safety and well being of all scouts are put first.

This past weekend the Scout Association of Guyana hosted the national expedition, what has previously been an annual event where groups from across Guyana embark on a weekend of hiking. This experience provides and opportunity for the youth members to put into practice alot that they have learnt at scout meetings and learn new skills.

The expedition is not only designed for their physical development, but also mental, it encourages team work as they spend the weekend in groups of 4, sharing the weight of all tasks, equipment and food. A number of scenarios are simulated such as splinting broken bones, sprained ankles, cuts, burns, bites, making of stretchers to move injured team mates, orienteering (use of the compass), hiking tips, cooking and food prep and much much more.

Here is a glimpse of some of the activities over the weekend.

The Scout Association of Guyana sends our sympathy to the family of Lord Michael Baden-Powell and to the members of Scouts Australia.

Gone Home: Lord Michael Baden-Powell of Gilwell

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the loss of Lord Michael Baden-Powell.

Michael's unwavering dedication to Scouting was evident in his deep passion for attending Scouting events and engaging directly with Scout Groups during Section nights or special occasions. He believed that by immersing himself at the grassroots level, he could make the most meaningful impact on the movement he believed in.

Michael’s love for Scouting radiated brightly through his infectious smile and the sparkle in his eyes. His genuine joy for the Scouting experience touched the hearts of Scouts around the globe, and his absence will be keenly felt by all members of the Scouting community.

During this time, our thoughts and sympathies extend to Lord Baden-Powell's beloved wife, Joan, and their family. Their loss is immeasurable, and we stand united in offering our support and comfort during this difficult period.

For further details about Lord Michael Baden-Powell's remarkable life and his invaluable contributions to the Scouting movement, we invite you to visit our website, where his legacy will be honoured and celebrated.

May Lord Michael Baden-Powell's spirit continue to inspire and guide us as we carry forth his family's vision of Scouting, instilling values, and empowering young individuals to become responsible and capable members of society.
