Celebrating the Joint Camp and Expedition 2024: An Unforgettable Experience for Scouts Across Guyana and Trinidad

The Scout Association of Guyana is thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of our Joint Camp and Expedition 2024, which brought together scouts from both Guyana and Trinidad for a week filled with adventure, learning, and camaraderie.

The camp wasn’t just about learning; it was also about fun and friendship! Scouts enjoyed a range of games, such as salout and hopscotch, fostering teamwork and spirit. The program included cultural enrichment through city tours of Georgetown and Linden. Additionally, scouts had the unique opportunity to tour the facilities of Banks DIH Ltd., where they learned about local manufacturing and the importance of community engagement. Other adventurous scouts explored iconic attractions, including the mesmerizing Kaieteur Falls, while some experienced the thrill of island hopping in the Essequibo, creating unforgettable memories.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our partners and donors who made this event possible: Sterling Products Limited, Banks DIH Limited, Environmental Management Consultants, Guyana Forestry Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, Guyana Police Force, and Nikkei Guyana. Thank you for your unwavering support as we nurture the next generation of leaders and environmental stewards in our communities.

Here’s to more adventures ahead!

**Exciting Adventures at the Joint Expedition 2024!**

Our recent expedition, attended by over 150 scouts from Guyana and Trinidad, was a remarkable journey filled with thrilling experiences and rich learning opportunities. Participants engaged in a dynamic agenda that emphasized essential skill development and conservation efforts.

Scouts immersed themselves in the local ecosystem, acquiring vital knowledge about indigenous flora, fauna, and soil resources. This hands-on experience was designed to cultivate their abilities and foster appreciation for environmental stewardship. Activities included raft construction, first aid training, pioneering techniques, and hiking—all aimed at enhancing participants' practical skills.

In partnership with esteemed organizations such as Environmental Management Consultants, the Guyana Forestry Commission, and the Environmental Protection Agency, participants honed their expertise in advanced topics like GPS technology, camera trapping for wildlife observation, and the strategic use of drones in ecological preservation. These collaborations also provided scouts with insights into local conservation initiatives and the critical role of community engagement in environmental efforts.

The expedition truly captured the collaborative spirit and adventurous essence of scouting. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our partners and sponsors for their invaluable support, which contributed to the success of this initiative. Together, we are inspiring and empowering our youth, nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.

The World Scout Conference is the governing body and meets every three years, preceded by the World Scout Youth Forum. The World Scout Conference is the general assembly of the World Organization of the Scout Movement and is composed of six delegates from each of the member Scout associations.

The Conference meets every three years and is hosted by a member association. At the World Scout Conference, basic cooperative efforts are agreed upon and a plan of mutual coordination is adopted.

Our Deputy Chief Commissioner with responsibility for training is representing SAG at the 43rd World Scout Conference (WSC) now being held in Cairo, Egypt. This is the 6th WSC Ms Joaquin has attended, her first conference was in Thessaloniki, Greece in 2002. Ms. Joaquin has served SAG in most of the senior positions. Her most note worthy. Was when she became the first female Chief Commissioner and held that position for 10 years.

We wish her a safe flight and a productive conference.

Amazing weekend with the EMC Foundation supporting youth development.

Happy International Youth Day!

This year's theme, From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development, perfectly aligns with our recent collaboration with the Scout Association Of Guyana. Together, we hosted an eco-adventure where young members gained hands-on experience with drones, camera traps, GPS, and deepened their understanding of the ecosystem around Camp Dora. These practical skills are crucial as we empower the next generation to lead the way in sustainable development.

Scouting is a global youth Movement that builds friendships, experiences, and skills for life, shaping young people's futures as active citizens. More than 500 million young people and adults have joined and experienced the power of Scouting's non-formal education since it was founded in 1907.

Compared to non-scouts, scouts are more likely to embrace positive social values, develop kindness, helpfulness, and cheerfulness and have a greater sense of hope for their future. As such, Scout Leaders are trained to deliver the scout program in keeping with the goals and mandate of World Scouting.

During the period of July 20 – 22, 2024 the Association held a basic camp craft Skill course. Eighteen (18) Scout Leaders from various scout groups attended the course. The training was conducted by Ms. Zaida Joaquin and Mr. Andrew Ramcharitar, Deputy Chief Commissioners responsible for Training and Program respectively.
